    why is oxbridge so special?

I'm deciding whether I should reapply to Oxbridge and I just wanted to ask...
in terms of 6 years later...by graduating from oxbridge compared to any other Uni...how will this benefit me?
the current mtas doesn't allow applicants to write down which university they go to. Because of the competition at Oxbridge it is actually harder to be at the top than any other university. I mean it is harder to get a merit or disctinction? Therefore wouldn't this go against me.

At the end of the day I just want to be an average doctor, and therefore would coming out of oxbridge give me an advantage compared to somewhere like Birmingham?

would it be easier to find a job 10-15 years later?
i know that for some other careers an oxbridge graduate actually gets a higher salary...this doesn't actually apply to medicine right?

would coming from oxbridge open more opportunities?

what makes an oxbridge degree better than another?

    thanks

maybe it would have more of an international reputation, but otherwise it's just personal preference - some may like the college based system, the traditional based teaching, or the chance to show off to their friends/family - everyone has their own reasons to apply to oxbridge

doesn't really matter in the end

At the end of the day I just want to be a normal doctor, and therefore would coming out of oxbridge give me an advantage compared to somewhere like Birmingham?

Birmingham is a perfectly valid medical school!

Fifteen years after graduation what you've done in those fifteen years matters, not what medical school you went to.

because of the mtas system, does that mean graduating from oxbridge doesn't necessarily mean that it is easier to get your vocational training in the london hospitals? would all medical students have an equal chance of getting allocated to a london hospital?
oh and ummm... by graduating from a london uni like imperial...would that mean there is a higher chance of being allocated to a london hospital? but then again because of the current mtas system i guess the answer is no...right?

once you have being selected to a Foundation School, you are then selected into specific jobs by a selection procedure...does this procedure allow applicants to write down what universities they grdauated from?

    sorry about the random qs

Why would you even want to work in London anyway?

Well is that so? Perhaps in some sub-specialities, but hardly in everything.

And you know, all this "I want to work in the best hospital with the best people blah blah blah" all sounds like more of an ego trip to me than a desire to do better for your patients. Does a top London specailist do more for the world than a GP in rural Herefordshire? Perhaps, but not at all necessarily. In fact, having a pleasant demeanour and good bed side manner can sometimes be as important to your patient's recovery as having cutting edge technology.

London is just so wrong in the way it does things. It's unbelievable.
