Would I have a chance?

I was going to be applying to Cambridge but looking at all the GCSE grades that every one has got in has got i think ive got as much chance of getting in as seeing a pig fly!!!
Thing is im confused now becuase i went and saw a careers advisor at college who said that with my GCSEs i did have a chance but i only got 1A* 8A's and 1B which is awful compaired to all these 10A*s etc i mean one person said that they think they got eh lowest grades of anyone who got in 5A*s and 5A's!!! im taking all 3 sciences and maths at AS level and have done quite a bit of work experince and got a lot of placements lined up for the summer. Does anyone think ive got a chance of getting in? or should i not waste one of my choices if ive got no hope of getting in?

I don't know what the lowest GCSE grades people get in with are, but at least you have got all As or higher (apart from ICT short course, but does that count?

) I wouldn't like to say whether you should apply or not, but if you can get high As in your A-levels and do well in the BMAT and interview, I would have thought you would have a fair chance then (but of course that's easier said than done!). It won't be enough to just do "ok" in those areas though, because you'll be competing with better qualified people. The only question is whether it's worth using up one of your 4 choices on Cambridge, as it's true that you'll be fighting an uphill battle. Sorry I can't be more specific about what grades people have - it's not something that tends to come up in conversation!

I know someone who got in with only 3A*s, but after an open day I went to, I remeber them saying there looking for a "String of A*s and As", lol. A bit vague but yh, by all means, if you want to apply to do, and of theres a reason why you didnt do briliantly in gcses you can mention that in the application or apply for special acesss. Oh yh, If you do extreemly well in your AS, I.e., above 95% in all modules, then you have a very good chance of getting in. SO concentrate on your AS!
