Cambridge Special Access!
did anyone else apply to Cambridge through their special access program? I applyed through it as I missed about 6 months of school last year due to health problems...
do u think I hav a better chance of getting in, with the help of the special access, or at least get a lower offer if I do receive an offer?
Just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation as me!Nottingham 2006-2011

30-12-2005, 05:03 PM #3I'm sorry you didn't get in! I still have to wait a few weeks before I find out. I really haven't a clue which way it will go. I think my interviews went pretty well, but with Cambridge u really never can tell!

wouldn't be so sure about that.
cambridge receive a lot of special access applications from people with mitigating circumstances. unfortunately, a lot of these people are only applying bacause they think its an easy way in (the system is notorious for that)
This may lead admissions to be slightly more cynical re. your application than they would be re. standard applications.
However, i wish you the best-good luck!

30-12-2005, 05:42 PM #7I know you are right to an extent! But my circumstances are quite unusual! How about I explain my circumstances and you can give me your opinion! Last January I was diagnosed with Hodgkins disease, a cancer of the lymph nodes. I spent most of the rest of that school year in and out of doctors offices and hospitals, for surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Yet despite missing almost all my classes for six months, I was still able to keep up with my work, and stay close to the top of my class in most of my subjects. To make my circumstances more unusual, this was not the first time I had had cancer. I had had a rare kind of ovarian cancer less than three years before.

wombatsprincess you definitely deserve to get into med school, even after going through your illness you still managed to do well, i really rate you and people like you are really good role models for the rest of us, i really don't know what i would have done if i were in your situation! you strike me as an extremely brave and motivated individual, you really should be proud of yourself!
Good luck, i really hope you get into med school!

did you know that each college is only allowed to admit one csas student a year, and even then they are not abliged to, so it could actually make things harder for you. Which college did you apply to by the way?
