Question about the course
The St Andrews course has a 3 yr program at Bute (the BSc Honours) and then the next clinical years are done at Manchester or Scotland. My question is whether there is a re-assessing process after the initial 3 years.
Do the students need to re-apply if they are going to Manchester? How exactly does it work? Do all the students who are accepted initially for the BSc. Honours get moved onto the clinical years or does only a percentage go on?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

they state that if you obtain an honours degree you then move on and if you look they give percentages which add up to a hundred saying 10 per cent of the year go here 50 where ever etc, However a good question is with the increase of intake of students has there been arrangements made with the partner universities for this increase?

I have just completed my St. Andrews degree and will now start my clinical training at Glasgow in September. There is no re-assessment after the 3 years, everyone automatically transfers to a partner clinical school provided they have gained an Honours level degree (which everyone gets, maybe 1 or 2 don't)
You don't have to go through the whole application process again when it comes to clinical school, you automatically transfer. However, in your 1st year you make a choice of whether you want to go to Manchester or stay in Scotland. You are then allocated either Manchester or Scotland and the majority of people get there choice.
In 2nd year, those who have been allocated the Scotland route are asked to rank medical schools in order of preferance - for example mine was Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee with Glasgow being my first choice. At this stage, some of the medical schools (edinburgh and dundee) are particularly competitive so allocation is based on academic results that you gain in 2nd year. Those who do really well are likely to get their first choice and vice versa.
That's pretty much all you need to know at this stage, there isn't much more to it. Everyone in my year are moving on to clinicals, those who don't tend to drop out in 1st or 2nd year.
