Medical Elective At UBC

Im think of doing my elective at UBC however having had a good look at the website i know that UBC students get first choice at all the placement. I was wondering what the chances are of being able to get a placement within commutable distance from Vancouver as i have relatives who i would like to stay with. Which are the most popular placement? Which are the least popular? Any thought about the other hospitals in BC, which would have close proximity to mountains (im a keen snowboarder and coming in Jan 2010), are there an which i should avoid? Any other thought about coming to BC on elective would be welcome.

I've recently applied for an elective at UBC, between October - December 2009.

Its a bit of a bummer that they got first choices, but I was told that depending on the specialty, there is good chance you can get a place, thats if you sent the application as early as possible, due to first come first serve basis for international students.

I wish I had some relatives in Vancouver, would save a lot of money...lol!!
