Those on the Bristol waiting list
Hi All,
I wanted to make a new thread for those on the Bristol waiting list.
The letter said that we should recieve a response from them in March, so there should be an outcome oneway or another!
Also there seems to be loads of us on the waiting list with relatively few offers, so what do you think will happen from here?
There are 2 things going around;
1) they have given all there offers out so most of us are basically rejected but they are just waiting in case some places are free
2) they have given around 150 offers and have put most people on the waiting list so that they can make a decision once they have seen us all
If you have been put on the waiting list please post and say what you think!
Good Luck guys

Hm I've no idea. I looked on the posts from last year and quite a few people on the waiting list did get offers, but then some were rejected (though seemingly fewer). However, obviously the forum isn't the best indication of what's happening to all waiting list people so it's difficult to say really. I personally wouldn't be surprised if I were rejected after this (long!) wait, but then I had a bit of a nasty interview. Fingers crossed though.

I'm on the waiting list too - am quite nervous about it, especially as Bristol's my first choice! But I'm very very thankful to have offers though, so it wouldn't be the end of the world at all, it's jsut the greedy side of me

Hi,
That seems right since the last interviews are on the 21st March so it would make sence.
It looks like there just comparing all those on the waiting list & the ones being interviewed now and picking the best few!
Does anyone know what proportion of people on the waiting list are offered places, i have heard about 1/3 last year were offered places.
does anyone know any better? or has anyone contacted bristol?
good luck

I don't like the idea of putting people on hold especially when they are rejected at the end. It's like toying with people's emotions. What is taking them so long? One month is even too long to wait and some people have waited 3 months!!! I was just LUCKY I wasn't put on hold as I don't think I'm better than you guys. I'm quite certain i'd have had a panic attack or hypertension if I had to wait as Bristol was my first choice. I really salute your perseverance and I hope you all get given offers. You deserve it.

Thanks for your support ayotab - you're right, it is nervewracking, just luckily for me it's not my first choice so I'm glad you got an offer quickly

Only... erm... a weekish to wait!xxx Gem xxx

Will u put Bristol as firm if u get an offer from them even though it's not your first choice.
It will be so nice if all of us on this forum meet up in Bristol. We'll actually see each other, that will be fun.Bristol

To be totally honest, it's unlikely. If I get an offer from Bristol but no offer from Cardiff, then Bristol will be my insurance with Birmingham my firm. Otherwise, Cardiff would be firm and Birmingham insurance... so really it would just be nice to get an offer! Best of luck to those who really need it.

Hi,
I hope you dont take this as a personal attack, gymmet, because this really isnt.
However, it frustrates me to hear about people waiting for an offer when they know that they will not accept it. This is especially irritating since they have offers at other universities that are higher in their preferences and will accept. We all know in Medicine, that the offer will be AAB so hoping for a better offer is usually not a valid argument.
I find it amazing how people can just take up an offer that could be given to another deserving candidate.
I say this because i am also on the waiting list. Bristol has always been my first choice. I am now in a situation where this is my only hope, yet i know the offer i truly desire and would be eternally thankful for could be taken by another candidate who will just reject it!
I dont dought the merits of these candidates, i am sure they are excellent but why do they need to have 3/4 offers! If i was in this situation i would withdraw to allow others to have a better chance.
This seems to be the case for many other universities as well.
I find this quite unfair.
I hope you understand my opinions and can see where i am coming from.
Spock
