I can understand your frustration - however, if Cardiff had given me an offer already (obviously not happening given their application procedure) then I would have withdrawn by now. When I had my interview for Bristol I had no idea what else was happening with my application, so I went. I don't expect to get an offer, but I would like to see what the outcome is. Equally, I didn't withdraw because I again how no idea how my other offers are going to turn out, and if I did get an offer from Birmingham and Bristol I would re-visit both to check I was making the right decision (because I do love Bristol, and that's why I applied in the first place). I also think it's better to hold out for an 'insurance' offer than withdraw from a particular uni because of assuming someone else will give me an offer... if on the day I missed a grade by 1 or 2 UMS marks, it's better to have 2 unis to ring up and beg to than one.

I know that my comments will make no sense to some of you, and I can't say I'm overly proud to admit them... but there it is. Also, I know it wasn't a personal attack, but maybe my views are the same as other people in the same position as me...I hope everyone who would love to get an offer from Bristol gets one, and I genuinely wish you all the best of luck.

    I agree with you gymmet.

As I was in the same position, where i attended several interviews at a time when i had 1 offer, but i attended the rest (one of which was my 1st choice) to firstly get into my 1st choice, secondly to see if i could get an insurance, and thirdly, cos i wanted the practice for the future.

Also, what u say about having an insurance is also true, its better to have 2 unis to ring rather than one, cos u never know what could happen in the exams.

I am sure many people, if not most, have views similar to ours.

Good luck to the ppl still waiting, hope it all works out.

Just got a rejection from the GEP course. Poo.

On a different note, I must agree with Spock, it isn't nice to have the fact that some people have numerous offers/interviews under their belt - and are currently undergoing the dilemna of where to go, when some people are experiencing the much more worrying dilemna of where they CAN go.

I acknowledge that applying to medical school is a highly competitive affair, which presumabely operates in order to ensure that only the "best" get through, thus ensuring a bright future for our NHS etc etc. However, in reality we all know that this isn't the case. Applying to medical school is a lottery! Everyone (pretty much) that applies must have done pretty well up until now just to have bothered to fill out the application form and click send. So plain and simple, some people will be lucky enough to get an interview and then subsequently an offer, whilst others will not.

Taking this seemingly unfair, yet inevitable reality into consideration it is understandable that at times tensions may run high, and people may become single minded and overly driven - hell that's what competition is all about isn't it?! However, we mustn't forget that we all share the same aim - to become doctors. Therefore, try to project a tad of modesty and humility, as well as displaying some empathy towards those who maybe aren't as fortunate as yourselves - as I willing to bet that everyone on here mentioned all these desirables in your personal statement to some extent.

Again, just to echo what Spock said, I'm not trying to pick faults in people, each of you have your own thoughts on the matter no doubt; just accept that these aren't the thoughts of everyone else

Yeah, not feeling too down about it, probably mostly because Cardiff came through the day before! Also, while I didn't withdraw, I'm glad that someone else on the waiting list probably got an offer who really really wanted/needed one. So smiles all around Hope you enjoy Bristol!

i got that letter today as well. i think its becuase bristol have so many more applications this year due to UKCAT they are unsure how many people will actually accept their offers... therefore if not enough people take up their offers as firm they may choose to interview more people at a later date. You can only asked to be placed on the reserve list if you have no other offers tho.... which is annoying as i would have really liked to go to bristol but since i have an offer for nottingham ive accepted that as my firm.... i got the same thing from southampton as well!! applying for medicine is hard work!!

I totally agree. it's an experience i will never forget. Probably there are more hurdles on the way when we actually start. No wonder doctors have a sense of pride when they tell people they are doctors.
