yeah ppl, a bit of advice required here - i'm absolutely clueless!?!

anything you think is essential to bring, or that we deffo shoudn't bring

that can be in terms of studying, equipment, clothes, appliances. you name it i wanna know.

I repeat I AM AN IDIOT WHEN IT COMES TO THESE THINGS

i'd probably pack a sheep coz i need a jumper.

ok, a bit overboard, but u know what i mean right??

i'm applying 2 clifton hill house btw

mmm....passport photos, a bike (if you've got one but not really essential, a camera , an extension lead, cutlery & plates (even if you're in catered halls), washing powder

that's a very random list, but it's 2.40am so you'll have to forgive me.

I've got a list from when i was packing before i came, but it's at home, so ask this question again in the summer holidays and i'll get hold of it and type it out for you.

Most important thing to get sorted is a Student Bank Account including cheque book and debit card - you'll need both right from day 1. Make sure you get a good deal - I think Natwest give you a free £60 just for starting an account - bonus.

Oh and if you haven't got one already - you can't honestly get away without a mobile phone.

One thing that keeps coming up is any item that could be attached to the person in the event of fancy dress. Have been told there are plenty of charity shops to visit, but cheaper if you already have a few items in halls. So dig out those old fairy wings, the cowboy hat and crazy hats...

Yeh, definitely a Medlink/ toy stethoscope if you've got one - you don't wanna be using your real one! If you can knick some surgical scrubs from somewhere you'll need them (not that i'm condoning anything unethical!). Also a baby outfit will probably useful for the first medics freshers pub crawl. :-)

baby outfit and pub crawl?!? u got me scared now!!

I don't like using washing powder - prefer the liquids - will the launderettes/ washing machines take that (my inexperience showing yet?) How much do they generally cost per load??

Any1 recommending bringing textbooks b4hand?? or shall i just buy em secondhand??

And do u suggest we bring our own computers/laptops? whats the university system like? i've heard good things about the networking etc, but what do peeps generally do??

    And thanx loads peeps!!

yeh i think you'll be ok with liquid - i used to use those pouches with liquid in them (liquitabs?). Costs about £1 per load and then about 50p to dry if i remember correctly.

Textbooks wise, i reckon wait, but when you get here, whatever you do don't buy every book they recommend. You can get away by just buying an anatomy textbook and atlas. There's always people selling secondhand too so you can do that if you like.

A computer if you've got one, makes a huge difference and if you're in halls you can connect to the uni network for ultra-speed internet in your room which is very convenient. There are lots of uni computers around but in halls, it's much nicer to just be able to do the odd 10-15 mins work/internet browsing/quick e-mailing etc.. in the comfort of your own room rather than having to venture out.

Good luck and look forward to October!
