I think about 10 places with 335 applicants. Its about 1 in 12 for 5 year, 1 in 30 for 4 year and 1 in 33 for 6 year. Much of what you ask can be answered here - http://www.medici.bris.ac.uk/general...sionsstatement
Hope that helps.

Hiya cakelover,
I'm a mature graduate who's borderline between the 5 and 6 year. I've got a Physics degree (and A levels in Double Maths and Physics and a couple of non-relevant ASs) but I don't have Chemistry or Biology A level or even GCSE Biology. I've been told that if I study (and it was implied get an A!) Chemistry and Biology ASs, I can apply for the 5 year but I'm thinking that it could be good to apply for the 6 year (which I assume I could apply for without the ASs) as an insurance type thing.
Do you know if that's possible?
Cheers
Vicky

Hi dotvicky, I've just finished the premed year after 3 years of studying economic history! I think you should be able to do that, one of the girls this year had studied Physics IB and it just meant they allowed her to study anatomy, chemistry and a third subject of her choice instead. It's worth sending them an email.

Dear Cakelover, I have just accepted my place for pre-medicine at Bristol. I found your post incredibly useful but I was wondering if you could let me know topics covered in that first year so that I begin to look at some things. For example, genetics? Circulatory System? Nervous system? Respiratory System? etc

Hello,
Thanks for post. The only thing I would mention about the useful tips is that I wrote it 5 years ago. I'm not sure how nuch the course has changed. I would check on the site for what's covered in each year. If you are starting premed, I would read up on what you need for the premed year really.
Hope that helps, have fun! - cakelover (7 weeks away from finals).

Thanks Cakelover and goodluck with your exams. The website doesn't really have a lot on there. Did the six years fly by? I am a mature student so I am worried I will be so much older than everyone else.
Does anyone else know of any specifics on what to study for the first year of pre-med?

Hello again. The six years does go fast believe it or not. The first premed year seems to take a while. But once preclinical are over, 3rd-5th years are gone in a flash. Matures are still around, so don't worry about being alone. Some in 30s and 40s. Are you relocating or already in the Bristol area?

I will be relocating to Bristol. It's all very daunting but I am looking forward to getting started.

Hey dotvicky, thanks so much. Tips on anything would be great to be honest. I have no idea; I am not even familiar with Bristol. WHat year are you in at Bristol? I have been trying to find out what I can be studying before I come to start pre-med, and most people give me the broad three topics of anatomy, physics, chemistry. I just would love to know specifics.
Tips on where to live would be great.
