Uni of Sussex cutbacks!

Hello,

I have heard today that over 3/4 of all unis in the UK are facing funding cutbacks, and that there has been a lot of backlash at Sussex with riots and protests.

Just wondering if this will affect the BSMS school of medicine?? I am a lil concerned as I really like BSMS (and have an offer) and hearing this has put a spanner in the works!!

Any feedback is much appreciated!

I wouldn't worry too much about the uni spending cuts if I were you. Newspapers usually exaggerate the consequences and miss out crucial bits of information. For example, funding for universities has increased over the years since Labour came to power and although funds are being cut, it still isn't at dangerous levels. Furthermore, unis get most of their funding through sponsorships/grants/investments from private companies into the research and experiements conducted by a particular department within the uni, so again, the funding cuts shouldn't affect you that much.

So in answer to your question, it may have a slight impact on BSMS, but I'm sure that they will make up for the funding cuts by diverting spending in departments and by the money they receive from private firms for the research they conduct. BSMS won't suddenly turn into a hellhole because of a few cuts so congrats on the offer and hope you enjoy it in september XD
