Graduate applicants to BSMS 2010
Hi all,
Just to let you know that I spoke to the dreaded Holly Huth today regarding their selection process for graduates. She said that when they have asked for university transcripts, they are calculating the average mark from all years studied and then inviting students to interview. She said that realistically, only students with an average of 65% from all years and above are looking at getting an interview as there are many students with much higher averages.
She said this doesn't mean that students with a lower average wouldn't get an interview but they have had many more applications than last year so they are having to be quite tight when giving interviews out.
Hope this helps,
Emily

No no no
that does everything BUT help
- I can kiss getting an interview goodbye now...my average for year one was 60 and for year 2 was 59 and my UKCAT was 605.....for some reason I had hope with BSMS but with these exceptional candidates applying - I am very concerned! Also, after I faxed my degree transcripts I didn't get a reply or confirmation - is this normal??

If I were you Fivefour, I would email BSMS to confirm that they received your transcripts. I did this last week and they did respond promptly. I'm sure you are fine, your scores are strong. They haven't given all of their interviews out yet so don't give up hope!
If it makes you feel better, I haven't heard from any of my choices yet
This whole process is very difficult

Thanks millietwigg...I think it's just unfair that they are looking at 65 as avergaes when the requirement is supposed to be for achieving a MINIMUM of a 2:1 which is 60. I've just emailed them about my transcripts lol I hope I get an inteview with them...where else have you applied? Yes this process is very difficult, stressful and disheartening, everyday is scary because of that "email" or letter lol.....

Unfortunately, even though I fulfill the academic requirements of BSMS (2.1hons), due to this new information from Holly, I have had to rule out BSMS as a option. In my first and second year at uni, I really struggled with the loss of a parent which means I didn't average 65%.
My other choices are SOTON GEP, Barts GEP and Barts 5 year. What about you? Have you heard anything back from your other choices?

Heey. they should really let applicant know this before we apply - I would have known to dodge BSMS!loool but I'm really sorry to hear about the loss of your parent...I'm applying to Birmingham, BSMS, Southampton and Bristol - nope I haven't heard anything yet.....which I am probably really grateful about but I just want to know that I will get a chance and they are not teasing me lol! They are all the 5 yr courses by the way .... This month things will get kicking I can feel it lol xx

My average is below 65 too. I think that if they do screen out those with an average lower than 65 it is unfair as this was not published anywhere. I wonder if applicants who meet the A-Level requirements but have less than 65% would be disadvantaged by this process. I hope not, I really would love to go to BSMS, the course looks fantastic.

It's really irritating Apricot. I sent my transcripts in with an explanation but I am not very hopeful. Hopefully if you aren't too much lower that 65%, you will still get an interview. I have an interview for Barts so I am pinning my hope on that instead.
