mature student accommodation
Hi,
I have an offer for bsms to start 09, and am just thinking about accomodation. Alot of the info on the web said that about a third of the students (well last year any way) were graduates, and i was just wondering what they all do for accomodation. I am in final year of first degree now and will probably go for a halls type option just to meet people and that, but if possible don't really want to share with all 18 year olds.
Does anyone know if many of the more mature students go for this option, or do most find another type of accomodation- eg postgraduate halls with 50 week contacts, or houses etc.
Hope someone can help,
Tom

Hi Tom,
well for the issue of accomodation, mature students tend to split into different groups. From what I know, a good group of mature students do live off campus or commute to school, but there are still quite a few of the mature students enrolling into halls. You shoiuld receive information packages about student accomodation and gets a choice of living in the University of Brighton halls or University of Sussex halls.
There are postgraduate halls convienently located in brighton uni (falmer) that's quite good to live in. As for me, I am staying in Paddocks Field in a flat with all mature students from a mix of subjects (I think this had to do with me indicating wanting to live in a mature students flat in my application form-->however i'm not sure if they have a mature students flat every year).
Hope this helps

I started this year at the grand old age of 25 and some of my best friends on the course are 18/19 and actually staggeringly mature compared to what I expected so I wouldn't worry too much about that aspect.
Having said that I registered to live in Paddock fields and got a room with other matures no problem. Then one week before I was due to move in I changed my mind and am now living in a shared house in central brighton (10 min train journey in the morning). There are plenty of options but what I'd advise is get a room in halls just in case and then if you find something off campus you can move out.
There was a long waiting list for halls so me changing my mind wasn't an issue and didn't cost me a penny
Good luckEven I got into med school in the end. Don't give up hope...
