how many places at bsms?

does anyone know roughly how many applications bsms recieves for medicine and how many places there are?
"getting into medical school" by james burnett has figures for this but it says that there are 2568 applicants, 242 interviewed and 136 places. that sounds like too many few places to me since most med schools have at least 200 places. Just wondering whether or not i have a good chance of getting in if i apply there, a 1 in 20 chance of getting in doesnt sound as good as say a 1 in 10 chance of getting into say..Keele

thanks for any replies!

Hi I think the figures have got a bit mixed up there are about 2200-2500 applicants per year less now than when it first opened think it was about 2260 this year. There are 126 places for home students and 10 places for international students. They interview about 550 in total including international students and give out roughly 220-240 offers per year for the 136 places.Hope this helps

No, they're correct. BSMS is the most competitive UK MedSkool to get into! It's the smallest as it has an emphasis throughout on small group teaching. Majority of classes are 8-16 students (other than the core lectures).

Try this website for the applications per place of every UK medical school:

Medschoolsonline - Medical Course Guide for School Leavers - Standard Courses

as you can see BSMS had 17.4 applications per place last year.

Hope that helps

Luke

If you like dreaming about chicks and beaches; then keep on dreamin; I know loads who have applied but none who ever got to the interview stage.

Needless to say that they are all at Med Skools elsewhere; not even sure if BSMS exists; perhaps it is a very small insular unit (possibly a phantom unit ) with a very narrow band of requirements for their intake; so if you fit apply !... if not then don't waste your option.

I applied to BSMS last year and I'm applying again this year. I made the reserve list for interview last year and then got rubbish A levels so I'm really worried about my application this year. I think my PS is better this time but I don't know if it's enough. I'm hoping and praying so much that it is. BSMS is my number one choice but to be honest, I don't mind where I study. I just want to get in somewhere. Anywhere!
