A change to the way bham are interviewing for the graduate & undergraduate courses

Interviews are organised in a multiple mini-interview format. You will participate in at least four separate, short interviews, lasting 5-8mins each. This will allow you to start afresh at each mini-interview. A range of your personal attributes relevant to studying medicine will be assessed by means of different tasks. Interview stations are designed to assess aspects such as: motivation for medicine; communication (including empathy); ethical reasoning (through consideration of an ethical scenario); logical reasoning (through undertaking a task); scientific understanding and interpretation (through discussion of a problem relating to medical science). The approach you take towards teamwork will be addressed by the task activity and through interaction with a role-player.

Preparation for interview and indeed for study on a medicine programme is aided by engaging in frequent discussions with friends and family about medical issues appearing in the news and media. You should also use your time on work experience effectively by gaining insight into the demands placed on staff, the problems they encounter and the strategies that they employ to handle difficult situations as well as the benefits they obtain from caring for people and working in teams. Again, opportunities to engage in discussion of these issues must be taken.

    Hi

Do you know if bham has changed their policy regarding the degree grades? As far as I know they only consider first class for the GEP course. Any update on that ?

    Thanks

On the website it says that preference is given to people who have already achieved a first class honours so its still the same.

If you look on the website under entry requirements, it says that the GEP course is only open to home/EU students only Medicine and Surgery MBChB Graduate Entry Course - University of Birmingham

I really like the city and the way the course is taught so decided to take my chances and apply there (I didn't think I would get in though)! Where are you thinking of applying?

I am thinking of Birmingham 5yr, Edinburgh for now. But the one thing about Birmingham is that they require a recent study of 4 years or less. My last degree is more than 4 years so I don't know if they would waive it somehow.

Oh I'm not sure how their policy works regarding that, best thing I would suggest is to email bham admissions before applying. Before I applied, I emailed the admissions tutor as I had few queries about their entry criteria and the admissions tutor was very helpful and replied promptly.

    Hi motivationG,

Could I ask where you got this information from? All applicants have been made aware of the interview stations via email but we have not been notified of a group task?
