Life Science and then Grad Medicine Birmingham
Hi Guys,
Basically i am 27, always wanted to study medicine, but left school half way through my A levels and moved to Ireland, After spending 8 years working in retail and working up from sales assistant to store manager, i decided to quit retail and go for what i wanted. I started doing my Leaving cert (Irish A levels) and so far my first year is going o.k (some good test scores) but im a brummie and would love to come back home. I want to apply to do a life science degree at brum and go for med then, whats my chances of getting in as a mature student on a science degree??
Any help appreciated
Thanks

Hello Pete.
A GEP program is really only something you want to consider if you already have a degree. GEP medicine is far more competitive at entry than the regular 5 year degree. Birmingham requires a distinction grade in your first degree for GEP entry - are you sure you can achieve that in your Life Sciences degree? Now it also means atleast 4 years of paying full tutition fees @9K per annum.
First degree then GEP is probably the hardest and longest route into medicine, it's baffling why so many people want to try that approach.
You're better off applying for an access to medicine course and then applying for the standard 5 year degree. Don't set your heart too much on a specific Uni. You've got four choices on your UCAS form, make them count.
