    birmingham graduate medicine 2011

    Hi

I am planning to apply to birmingham for GEC . I have a first in biochem. however I am unsure about the admissions policy. if you have a first are you guaranteed an interview. I know the proportion of people who hav a first in any university is quite low. I have poor gcses (Bs and Cs) and A Level BBC (chem, math, bio). can anyone sugest to me whether I have a shout of getting an interview at birmingham with a decent persoanl statement.

if approx 700 apply then how does the uni differentiate the applicantm, purely on grades and ps. or anything else counts.

    hi

i too am applying to birmingham for GEC. from what i understand they require you to have a 1st in your degree and a good understanding of chem, this can be gained from previous academics or from the degree, although i cannot seem to find out how they select for interview, so this would be interesting to know.
i think you fit what they are looking for really well so i think you stand a good chance of getting an interview. good luck!

hi there, if you have a first no you are not guaranteed an interview. everyone has to have a first in order to apply with a successful application. so ur first won't affect your interview as everyone has to have one! as far as i know they don't look at GCSEs and on the grad programme all they want is above C at A level chemistry. i have a first and a C in chemistry a level and i have a place for oct 2011. i think you have a shot so you should apply!

Hi, you need to have a first already achieved at the point of application. The only exception to this seems to be that if you're from oxford/cambridge then they will let you in straight after your degree, even with just an achieved grade of 2.1. Having said that, I know of at least one person who got in with a first straight from undergrad, with a degree from bham. My point is that there are exceptions, although these are few and far between. I would say that the PS is very important so make sure you leave the reader with an impression that you understand the key concepts in healthcare, and relate to your work experiences, etc.
