Question for GEP Applicants/current students - please all reply
Hi evry1 havnt been on this site for years - since bak in the old A-level days
i have a question for every1 who applied to Birmingham for the Grad programme.
I am planning on applying in the next year or two - and was wondering what kind of students get interviews and consequently offers.
if every1 can say what degree they have got + type (1st/2.1) - how many years experience - and finally if they were given an interview/rejected.
i will start of
I am currently a 3rd year Pharmacy student on the MPharm (masters) programme
i have 2 years work experience while at university - and am hoping to try to apply in my pre-reg year (a year from now - so 2012 entry) - by which time i will have 3/4 years work experience which includes 1.5 years experience after having achieved my BA(Hons).
i am hoping to get a 1st (that reminds me i hav got a lotta revsn to do )
I dont know if i will be able to compete with other fellow grads - , as i have nothing to compare myself to other than the min. req. on the Uni website (which lets face it iznt always an accurate way of looking at it).
Pls can current students + this years applicants reply to this thread -

I am not a GEC myself, but I think this year they wanted a first; and you can't be predicted a first, you have to have it already.

Hey.
I also have an offer to start in september. I graduated with a first in Biological Sciences. i applied to Brum when i was in the second year of my degree and was predicted a first. but they rejected me. then i applied after a year working in research; they accepted me.
FACT: 1) you must have a 1st to be guaranteed they will even look at ur application during the shortlisting stage.
2) Chris Lote himself told me they really do prefer candidates to have worked at least for one year minimum after graduation.
3) you must have grade C (or B, i forgot) or above in alevel chemistry.
4) if you can satisfy these, you should go ahead and apply. follow ur dreams and reach the stars.

Going back a bit now (2007), maybe things have changed but thought I would post this as its a different situation to most.
2006 - MPharm 1st class Hons. No work experience really, rejected.
2007 - applied after working for a year and got an offer. The reason I mention this is because I had no a-level science. In fact, my a-levels were awful. However, I did complete a 1 year foundation course, in which I got high marks, covering 'A level' bits of math, chem, physics and biology (this is how I got onto pharmacy degree).
The reason I mention it is because at the interview the Prof looked at me and said, 'well u don't have an A level in chemistry, but you got a 1st in MPharm so that should do'.
Good luck in your application - I luv it!
