    Grads on 5yr course

Question to all the lucky grads who managed to snag themselves a place on the 5yr course...

On the website it states that grads need a 2.1. Is this the case or is it like the GEC when they say a 2.1 but actually mean 1st?

Also their stance on A levels is a 'suitable combination of A Levels at good grades' - does anyone know what this equates to?

Finally, does the 7A* requirement apply to grads?

    Thanks

    It is definitely 2:1.
My friend in my year (we've just finished first year), she has a BMedSc (2:1) with AAB (A's in Chem & Psych, B in Biology) and with no A*'s at all in GCSE (7A and 2B).

Hopefully that helps. There's at least 5 graduates with us on the 5 year course that I know of.

Unsure. But check with admission tutor, just email him, he's quite friendly.

Is it harder for a grad to get onto the 5 yr course if he/she has 2:i but not so good A levels? or is it harder to get on the 4 yr course with a 2:i?

Always contact the admissions tutor first before taking anything said on this forum for granted, but generally speaking they will consider 1st class candidates first for the interview slots. They do mention this on the GEC page as follows:

"The entry requirements stated are the minimum and we expect that many candidates will exceed these requirements. In fact to date the competition has been such that we have only considered candidates with first class degrees."

So as a candidate that has a 2:1, your chance of securing an interview will vary each year in accordance with the proportion of people that hold the top degree. Looking at government stats, around 10-11% of graduates attain the top grade (but that is going up each year by a small amount).

You can ask the admissions directly how many people have applied this year and how many interviews they are planning to hold, so you can gauge the competition. But again, it is all down to their discretion and the individual merits of each application.

Academic factors though, do appear to be considered very important to Birmingham.

Again ask the admission tutor directly to get a frank, honest response that you can trust rather than get worried by what people say here - including me!

Hi there. I just thought i'd let you know that I go to Birmingham uni and do biological sciences but went to a meeting on doing graduate medicine/undergraduate medicine at birmingham and they are really tough on entry requirments! I was under the impression that you had to get a 1st to be considered and they do look as far back as GCSE aswell... hope that helps even if its not quite wat u want to hear!

Hey!I'm a 2nd year thinking of applying to Birmingham, but would like to know whether I shouldn't bother becuase I took my A levels over 3 years, I'll be at a disadvantage.

    I got:
    A-Chemistry
    A- Media Studies
    B- Biology
    B- Mathematics

also I'm on 59 for my average in Biochem at the moment but I'm predicted a 2:1 and certain I can achieve this.

I was going to call up, but I doubted they'd be open today??

Any info would be much appreciated
