Graduates applying for 5yr...offers?
Hiya,
I graduate in Pharmacology this year at Newcastle uni, had an interview with birmingham on Monday 9th March and I am wondering how long it will be untill decision comes through and if there are any other graduates who have had offers and whether they were conditional on a 1st or 2:1?? This is for the 5yr course.

Hi!
You will be looking at a wait of a week at the least, most of us applying for the Graduate course got our offers one week later.
Did you just apply to the 5-year at B'ham? I know of two people who also graduate this year who got offers for the GEC, did you feel that the pace of the five year might be better suited to you?
The condition will be on you achieving a 2:1 too.

No thats not the reason I applied for the five year, it was more a case of the 4 yr being more competitive, not wanting to be rejected meaning taking a year out before applying for the 4 or 5 yr course the following yr. Made sense to me to go for the 5r course now. I'm very happy with my decision. I'll get a part-time job durng my first 2 years I think.
How was your interview for GEC? Is it much different to the 5yr interview do u know?
Oh and a 2:1 would be sweet, aiming for a 1st but never know what might happen in finals!!

I too wanted to apply to the 5 year course at Bham but they told me in addition to a 2.1/1st they also require you to meet the requirements for Undergrad students which is AAB! lol

That sounds right champ yeah, I vaguely remember that from when I did look into it myself.
Incidently I didn't meet the 5yr criteria, as I had ABB, so I applied for the 4yr course and got an offer! Strange eh? But highlights the importance of looking really carefully at all the requirements, it's no wonder how many people can get caught out.
Mandy...the GEC interview followed exactly the same format at the 5yr, I have a friend who is currently in his 2nd year on your course and he told me all about his interview, and I told him about mine, and pretty much the same questions were asked in a similar order.

I heard 4 days after my interview, it appeared on track and is 2.1 conditional. My other 3 applications are to graduate courses but I also thought I would increase my chances with an UG course, not sure how I will pay for it though. I also really like B'ham as a place but there is no way in hell I would get a 1st which is all they seem to offer.

Congrats Rick, on the offer from Bham! Well done!
I really want to go to Bham for Medicine, I already have a degree achieving a 2.1. This rules out GEP I guess as they like grads with 1sts and the 5 year course I cannot apply due to not having AAB. So guess I can't apply to Bham!
Congrats to Metwigg as well! I guess you met the A level requirements?

Yes I did meet the requirements but still dont think you should be ruled out because of that. I have heard of graduates getting offers despite not having the entry requirements, afterall you took your A-levels a while ago when the entrance requirements would have been different and you have at least 3 years and a degree over most other applicants.

I havent had all my interviews yet, so far imperial have put me on their waiting list which as far as I can tell means I wont get an offer because of my place at Birmingham. I have a selection centre next week for Warwick and Barts and then it will be the long wait to hear from them. I would want Warwick as a preference, partly because the graduate courses are so much cheaper, but I am happy to get my Bham offer and will gladly take it up if I dont get a place. How about you? Do you have a favourite?
