Ahhhhh!

Just to let everyone know, Birmingham have started handing out offers! Had my interview on 22 October and they got back to me today.. SO excited! Here are some of the questions they asked me at interview:

First question: So, what do you think we should ask you? (I replied "why medicine" and "why birmingham", they asked me to answer the second of my questions...)
What happens after you graduate?
What are the disadvantages to doctors working fewer hours nowadays?
What are the disadvantages to patients whose doctors work fewer hours nowadays?

I then got a bit of a grilling about my social life, preceeded by THE most random question ever:
"What contribution to the UK do you think the isle of Iona makes?"
Less random because my name is Iona, but still! wtf?! He got a rather blank look.
"You've said here on your personal statement 'teamwork is essential to minimise fatigue in cycling', how is that?"
"How important do you think extra-curricular activities are?"
"I see you weren't very keen on DofE." (I only did bronze)
"Convince us you do something outside of your studies."

There was a panel of 4 interviewers, but only 2 asked questions. It was a fairly relaxed interview until the grilling by the 2nd interviewer. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!

Good luck everyone!

Congrats Iona!! I had my interview at Birmingham on the 29th, still no word! Did you ask at your interview how long it usually takes to hear a decision?

To answer your question Elle-b, although I personally didn't ask, someone that did was told they'd hear within 3 weeks

Thankyou Gooner16
Don't worry - the old cliche, "the interviewers at such and such a uni were so friendly", really does apply here.
I also agree with Iona in that the biggest grilling was on my social life. Though I guess this makes complete sense, as everyone is already there on academic merit

Anyway, good luck!

Okay so you have got your offer now, congratulations. But just because you are secure doesnt mean you can come on here and start handing interview questions to people; some of us are still waiting for offers and dont want our chances spoiled because people like you start giving advantages to other people.
