2010 entry requirements...
Hi, Ill try to keep in short and simple.
I dont meet the minimum requirements of 7A*s or maybe even 8A*! at GCSE (no where near them), however I did mature, and gained a 1st in a masters of engineering from QUB. Currently I am self-studying A-levels Chemistry, Bio, Physics, Maths and further maths AS this year while working full-time.
Provided my experience is right, what chances do I have of getting an offer for 2010 medicine entry?
Thanks

Hii
well...from my understanding.. this year the requirement for people with a level predictions is 7 a stars, 6 a stars for people with a level results already and 5 a stars for graduates, so, with your first this year you would have been considered as long as you have 5 a stars- i think.
As for 2010, i don't think you can really predict what the requirement will be because I don't think they have even decided it themselves. But i suppose it will either stay at 5 for graduates or perhaps raise to 6. You could try to contact the admissions tutor, he has been really helpful whenever i've talked to him.

Depends when you took your GCSE's i presume as they have obviously got much more "accessible" in the last few years. MY advise would be to ring them up and see what they think. If they don't its not a huge deal, theres plenty of other medical schools in the area i.e. the graduate school at warwick?

When I had my interview this year, it started off with the profs telling me my GCSE A*'s were quite low, and were the reason I didn't get into med school last year! But they went on to explain that guaranteed interviews at bham if you have 7A*'s, or 6 A*'s if you have 3A's at A-level, and 5A*s if you have a 2:1 degree. IMO theres no point applying to birmingham if you have less than 5A*'s!

maybe.. im not sure how they look at deferred entry.. do you know whether they like it or not? I do know someone who got in last year with 7 a stars going for deferred entry though.
I think my interview was just a matter of luck because i sent off my application quite early

a friend of mine had an interview at birmingham for deferred entry a couple of weeks ago and got an offer. so i wouldn't worry! besides, apparently they call people to interview in quite a random order. hope that helps a bit...

Yes I wouldn't worry With that early interview at Toon, you're obviously a strong candidate, so it's only a matter of time, really (as always!).
I do hate waiting. I'm not expecting to here anything from my other 2 for quite a while...
