Will I get in with a Mech Eng degree?

I know a few universities will look at "any discipline", but will Birmingham look at "any"...or just those that have completed a life science degree?

Hi Thomas, sorry to hear what a tough time you and your family have had over the years. I cannot begin to imagine how difficult it must have been and sounds to me like there would definitely be a chance of getting into medical school. I dont know about the equivalent to 7A* GCSEs required currently by Bham.
One thing I will suggest is that you google bham medical school and through their website contact someone in admissions - tell them about your Irish leaving Cert and degree and briefly mention there are strong personal motivators that make you certain medicine is for you and ask them for advice on whether you have a chance of getting in and what qualifications you could get to help you (Access course or chemistry).
For the access courses, I dont think Bham does one but again, google them and there's usually a weblink where you can ask someone in the know.

Thanks guys for your comments. I am in Birmingham at the moment, and will definitely try to arrange a personal meeting with their admissions. Sadly, I know my marks are not up to the standard, but I have come a long way over the past 4 years.

I will check into any for any chemistry courses that can be taken and as you say, the admissions will be able to give the best path to take.

I just feel an urge to contribute and give back. Looking at news over the past few months, all we see is complete and utter exploitation, which is deeply disgusting and depressing me.

I will be applying to medical engineering firms and definately go for the NHS management programmes. At least it one step closer to what I want to do, and maybe I will get there eventually.

Any more comments on what I can do are more than welcome.
