Graduate Entry students @ Birmingham

Hello,

I looked at Birminigham's website and they said that they only consider graduates with a 2.1 or 1st. Does Birmingham accept 2.1 graduates on to their course? Also what is the interview like at Birmingham?

Thank you

It's pretty much the case that you have to have a first (or 2.1 from oxford / cambridge). You also seem to have to apply once you have already graduated and not when you are in your final year (unless again from oxbridge). Maybe they would consider very exceptional applicants with a 2.1, but all I can tell you is everyone on the course in my year has a first and had at least one year out between their last degree and GEC. Hope that helps

Hi Amy,

Is that for definite, I mean do you know oxbridge graduates who've got in with 2.1s? Or are they just people who missed out on their first offers but were let in anyway?

I graduated from cambridge last year with a 2.1, just wondering what my chances are. I noticed another cam student on this forum got an offer whilst still in final year but he was also estimated a first (and the offer was based on getting a first).

Also as a rough guide what is the first year timetable like, is it every day 9-5?

Anyway thanks for any info

Sorry I can't say for definite, I was told that by older gecs when I was applying. It is certainly true that they are the only people that are given offers whilst still at uni, so I think it is possible they would be accepted with a 2.1, but I can't say for definite. The only people on my course this year all had firsts.

First year timetable:
Monday: may have one or two lectures in morning, experts sessions for around 2 hours every week (though not compulsory)
Tuesday: pbl every morning 'til midday
Wednesday: may have some lectures in the morning, anatomy session every afternoon
Thursday: firm one all day
Friday: pbl everymorning

hope that helps!

I can assure you that, in the view of one admissions person anyway, a first from Cambridge is equal to a first from anywhere - in other words you need a first even if you were at Oxbridge. But of course this person went to UCL...

2.1 from Oxbridge

Hi, im starting Birmingham GEC this year and I have a 2.1 from Cambridge. I have been told that places are given to peaople with 1sts from most universities and 2.1 from oxbridge.

Hope this helps

May be, may be. I wouldn't bank on it though.

Hi people,

I used to work in admin at the Birmingham Med school, and I know that there have been a few (and only a few) people get on the grad course with a 2.1. Going to Oxbridge doesn't make the slightest difference. There are also many graduates on the 5yr course.
