I'd be interested to know this too. I only have chemistry up to as level but it was covered in my course too. I actually emailed prof chris lote about this and he said that it was acceptable as had been coveed in my course. As to whether that means it would rule me out of getting an interview is another matter... i really hope it doesn't as i REAAALLY want to go to birmingham

I'm not sure about chemistry - I did it at Alevel but didn't get the best of grades (only a C). My undergrad degree so straight Genetics so that didn't have too much Chemistry in it (only a couple of modules of biochem). Hope this helps a little

Ooh, congrats rickscreen too. My date is early Jan (I think it may be the 5th but I haven't got the letter to hand). I am going to see if there is any way I can change it to late December, though I guess that may not be possible (I live in NY and will be home for Christmas so would be great to just have to pay for one flight!)

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows what the ratio of interviewees to offers is at Birmingham? Thanks x

Hello Joey, are you inquiring about the graduate course, the five year or both?

I emailed Chris Lote asking this question about the GEC and he gave me a nice full answer:

Number of graduates who applied this year = 700
Number of interviews dished out = 70
Number of places offered = 60

So really, graduates stand a good chance of an offer, but that's no reason to be complacent!

Hope this helps, as I do not have such definitive answers for the 5-year myself.

Cheers, Rick.

When did you guys find out whether or not you had an interview? Was it via letter or email? I'm talking about the GEC

Hi Dave,

I got a letter sent but no email. I know Bristol both emails and posts, but Birmingham only post. I received it about a week an a half ago.

Rick.

Hi,

thanks for that- I was really curious about how many interviewees get a place...but on the b'ham website it says theres only 40 places for 2009, not 70?....

thanks (my first post! yay!)
