time table
out of interest, in the first year at birmingham what is the time table like. in a typical week how many seminars/tutorials/lectures will you have?
In the first term, will there be much time outside work for a part time job?

You can forget about a part time job, at least during the week. Not even because of the amount of contact hours (and there is comparatively a lot), but because the time table is so hectic. And I mean HECTIC. You might be in at 9am, have another lecture at 12pm, 3pm and 5pm or something stupid like that.
Example of a totally random week at the start of term 2.
Monday
9-11 am lectures
11-12 anatomy SGT
3-4pm lecture
Tuesday
10-11am SGT
11-12 lecture
1-2pm anatomy SGT
3-4pm lecture
Wednesday
9-10am lecture
10-11am SGT
12-1pm lecture
Thursday - Firm 1 all day
Friday
9-10am anatomy SGT
11-12 - lecture
1-2pm - lecture
4-6pm - lectures
(SGT = small group teaching)
(you have to love those 6pm Friday ends). Anyway, that's quite typical. Some weeks it might be lighter, others heavier.
Perhaps it'll be less hectic next year when we get the ATH (lecture theatre) back to ourselves, but who knows...
You can have a weekend job - some people do - but it's quite rare."Don't get high on your own supply."
