    Vague admissions reply

So I e-mailed admissions asking whether my lack of A-level Chemistry should be cause for concern. They simply mailed back saying they'd need to see my degree transcript and that because so many people surpass all requirements, i.e. that first class degree, I would naturally be at a disadvantage not having Chemistry.

What should I make of this? Other medschools appear not to be worried about A-level chemistry for those with degrees. Is Birmingham a lost cause?

Saying that, am I going to get this from everywhere (and just don't know it)? How devastating a vague reply can be to one's hopes lol...

I find this a bit surprising as I'm sure I read somewhere that Birmingham were admitting Anthropology people onto the course...surely they dont have Chem either?

Why not take your A-level chemistry now? You can take it by distance learning (if you go to the A-level topic I think there are some discussions on this) and that way be absolutely certain there is nothing they can pull you up on. If nothing else - Chemistry is a good preparation for medicine, many of doctors that I have spoken to actually feel chemistry is more important than Bio in terms of surviving the first couple of years.

Just a thought - would be very doable in the next 8-9 months, although any offers you get may be conditional on you achieving a certain grade.

    Best of luck either way!
