applying with 5 a*
If i have 5 a*, is it worth applying. I know it meets the minimum specifications for this year, but for next year will they still be the same? I heard that they might be changing it to 7. Also, i have a 4th A level, is that of some value (considering its an extra qualification which is harder than a gcse.)
Also, are there less applicants per place due to this requirement?
A lot of people in my school got only into birmingham and to no other medical schools.
Thank you for any replys.

of the people who get interviewed, a lot get offers but still, 2000 people were rejected without interview this year (that's from a professor lote email i received). Also, dont read too much into the peeps at ur school getting into bham only. Lots of people i know either got rejected from everywhere else but got a place at sheffield, or the other way round. Just depends on who you know rather than making a judgement about the med school! Make sure you're predicted 3 As for A2 as well, along with 5 A*s but email admissions before you submit your application.

What was the GCSE threshold at Birmingham this year? I have 6A*s and 4 As and I didn't get an interview. Was it because the threshold was 7A8s or higher?

At a careers fair the Birmingham admis tutor told me it was 7A8's but that might have been for those wanting to start in 2008

were you predicted/acehieved 3 As at A level too? if so, that's strange and 7 A*s is ridiculously high

Yep Predicted A in Bio, Chem and Latin. They offered me a place for biology! Did anyone with fewer than 7A*s get an interview?

that's mental, did you ask for official feedback? have a look at other threads for others who were invited for interview but 7 A*s, that's getting a bit obsessive.

I would advise against it unless you're totally and utterly in love with Birmingham, because the A* requirements seem to change an awful lot; it might be 5 in the prospectus, but 6 on the website, etc. They are very, very rigid with this too, literally to the extent where they won't consider you if you have less. Ring them up just to make sure, but I'd suggest a uni that's not so obsessed with A* requirements.
