thanks for the support people . DLVB it took u that long to get a reply? Birmingham quite rightly said "2-3 weeks" and I quote people said "definitely get a reply within the 3rd week". I checked UCAS there's no update so I dont think ill get a letter tomorrow. But hopefully by Wednesday (being exactly the third week after my interview), I will get a reply

Does anyone know anyone whos been rejected from Birmingham after the interview?

lol it seems like Birmingham are actually having technical difficulties. Their website is not accessible ....

    http://www.birmingham.ac.uk
    http://www.bham.ac.uk

hopefully that wont mean my reply will be delayed for another few weeks or so :?

I don't know if it was what made me get my interview but when I went into my interview I was practically grinning like a cheshire cat. But I made sure that I shook all the interviewers' hands and both at the beginning and at the end of the interview. I also made sure I made absolute eye contact with all of them when they spoke to me. This was just to put on a confident front seeing as my PS was a bit lacking and a bit too vague when it came to the work experience bit. Typical!
Shake, come on shake it, shake it like a polaroid picture......he hey!

Confidence always helps I think. I shook their hands but I don't think they really expected me to. Just be friendly because doctors need to get on well with strangers. If they ask you something you don't know just admit it. If the ask you a question you don't understand ask them to reword it or give you an example. Basically, I believe they are more likely to accept someone who they like. So, appear interested, enthusiastic maybe joke a little and be honest. Don't worry too much about hand shaking or whatever!

I shook hands with the interviewers before and after. On my part it was more out of politeness and an automatic response really! I don't think it has a major bearing but it won't do you any harm and shows you are friendly and welcoming.

    shaking hands

I didn't actually shake my interviewer's hands b4 or after my interview but I made sure that when I walked in I acknowledged each of them by looking at and giving them a big smile  and a nod. I'm quite a short person anyway so when I saw the huge big table in front of me that they were sitting behind I decided not to try and make a fool out of myself by trying to reach across!

I know nothing about hand shaking practicalities, but I thought I'd share with you some research I read (and now can't find, damn it!). Bascially, the researchers asked SHOs who had just had their MRCP viva exams how they thought they'd done the minute they came out, and showed that there was absolutely NO correlation between how they thought they'd done and how they had actually done.

So even if you think it was dire, you might be OK

Other than this i was asked about the stages of becoming a consultant.
