    Meal Plan or Catered?

Being your average incapable teenager, I have opted to buy a meal plan or live in a catered residence.

Now Brummies, I need your help with some questions:

    a) Is the food good? or should I plan to learn how to cook?

    b) How much money per day/week do I get for the meal plan, or how many meals do I get with the catered option?

    c) How many meals are covered by the meal plan/catered options?

    d) In general, which one do you think is better, meal plan or catered? any particular reasons?

    thanks!!!

The food at meal plan is ok, kind of just like school dinners. Gets boring pretty quickly but i like it cos we all go down as a block, and we wouldnt eat together if we were self catered.
You get £31 a week on your card, which u cant carry over to the next week which is a bit rubbish. also, there's nowhere on campus to use ur money.
u can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, but not at weekends.
i would say the good things about meal plan are its a good way to socialise (altho its not like u wont see ur block any other time), its good if u cant be bothered to cook and its easy to get fruit and veg, but to be honest most people on mealplan say they wouldnt do it again.

If you're not on the meal plan you can still get food from shack attack for exactly the same price....

I'd agree with that, i'm not on the vale but i'm in catered halls and i like how you get to see everyone at meal times. we also get the same food as at shack (only less variety) being a very fussy vegetarian i'd say the food was ok, but sometimes perhaps a little inedible, but i know there are far more options at shack.i find that when i do cook for myself (on weekends) that it takes up a lot of time - both cooking and going to sainsburys. normally i just end up eating biscuits
