    Catered/Meal Plan Accommodation

Was just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of whether meal plan works well or not? I wanna do it cos i think it'll be more social, whats the food like? tatsy? Healthy?! if im in tennis court with meal plan, does that mean i have to go to shackleton for my food each day? how much credit is left over at the end of the week? enough for weekend food? Do you end up spending a lot on food as extra? Do a lot of medics stay in one particular hall? sorry there's a lot of questions, thanks so much if you answer any!

The quality of the food is debatable - sometimes it can be quite nice, other times just poor options. It can be 'healthy', as there is a salad bar, and fruit available for every meal. The best thing about it is probably the flexibility of the hours they serve (eg dinner is served from 4:30pm til 9:30pm) - so overall it's ok really. It's not really more social, although i suppose you can meet people for lunch/dinner - but you can do that without a meal plan anyway as you can pay by cashfor meals.
Yep, all food is eaten at shackleton (either at Fusion where 'proper' meals are; or at Bar1 where you can get sandwhiches, lovely paninis, coffees, cakes, thus mainly for lunch) - which is about 5 mins from Tennis Court.
You get £31 for the 5 weekdays, which means that during the weekdays you will have to buy meals... most convenient thing to do is probably buy cereal and bread and have breakfast in your flat. You'll need to buy food for the weekend (Bar1 and Fusion are not open for catred food in weekends), although if you have money left from the £31 you can stock up with fruit, sandwiches from bar1/fusion on Friday I guess.
Medics are scatered about in all the halls so there'll be some near you! (I think there's a tick box for if you don't mind living with people on your course on the Accomodation form?)

thanks a lot for replying! how much (on average) does a meal cost? as in how many meals do you think i'll get out of the £31? how much extra do you end up spending on food? would self catering be cheaper? Bit of a random question but do you know how far away hunter court is from everywhere else?

Dinner costs about £3:50 (including dessert) maximum.
Sandwiches range from about £1:50 (? can't remember exactly) to about £2:40 (price of paninis or the really long baguette-type); or if you have a hot lunch about £2 to £3.
for me, the £31 for me covers lunch and dinner per day (I just buy my own cereal and milk for breakfast), and I usually have some money left for hot drinks on friday evenings chilling in Bar1 . Which leaves me to spend on food for the weekend - I usually spend about £10 at Tescos which covers 2 lunches and 2 dinners and also some snacks for the week too. It really all depends on how much you eat, and what you'd like to cook!
Hunter Court is about 40 mins walk away from the medschool - one of the furthest accomodation

Hunters court is on the pershore road next to the cricket ground

not being very good at links this may or may not work. But the medschool is at the trainstation (red dot to the left of uni), and hunters court is on the red road (A441) pretty much where the church symbol is next to the cricket ground....left hand side of the picture. For orientation the vale is shown at the top centre of the picture which is where most of the accomodations are.

Like A.S says it is one of the halls which are further out (excluding manor house which is even further out!).

If your not on meal plan you can still go down to shack attack and buy food there anyway, and it costs the same whether your on meal plan or not...
