Prospective student for Birmingham Medical School
Hey everyone!
I'm new to this so if i posted in the wrong forum forgive me! I just wanted to ask a couple of questions which i was curious about and would really appreciate if you could answer them please:
1. How much influence do gsce results have on getting a place at Birmingham med school? (because i only got 1 A* 6 A's and 3 B's)
2. Would i be able to get a transfer if say for example i attended Leicester Medical School for a year and then wanted to move to Birmingham Uni?
3. Finally what sort of questions do they ask at medical schools?
Thanxs

Hi
Not sure about the GCSE requirements but there's no way you will be able to switch med schools (this can only be done in the most exceptional circumstances). The thing is you'll ultimately end up liking the uni you're at anyway as you won't know any different. You'll make a bunch of mates and have a good time wherever you are.

thanxs jas1, i appreciate the reply. I'm really keen on going to Birmingham but i think that it would be unlikely that i get a place. What were the requirements you needed to fufill if you don't mind me asking. Because it seems to me people with A*'s in gcses are accepted at medical schools and seen as your 4th year student do you think i stand a chance?

Just make sure u've done work experience, shadowing and know the training that comes after medical school. Good luck.

Personally,If you don't have at least 5A*s I doubt it's worth applying to Bham. They've rejected loads of outstanding people this year on GCSE grades alone, so unless you've got them, you're basically wasting one of your 4medschool choices. there's loads of threads of people complaining about the Bham 6A* thing.

thanxs every1 for replyin urm im ambivalent now about applying to Birmingham, i really wanted to get a place but its looking very unlikely. If this years entry requirements were 6A* then entry for 2007 is going to be even more competitive!!! GRRRR

Yes this year it was 5 A*s as thats what i got and i got an interview. Still waiting for a reponse though! I think i was really boderline though as they had initially rejected me on UCAS but couple of weeks ago they invited me for interview, so was quite unexpected! So personally dont bother unless youve got atleast 5A*s

Yeah, you require the 5A* and I doubt transferring is an option cos the class size is way too big! Everyone seems to want to come to Bham so we're oversubscribed and they try to get rid of 1st and 2nd yrs so that there are enough hospital placements to go round (so I hear anyway!)
Anything worth doing is worth doing well
I've got a job with excellent rotations!!!
and I'm feeling optimistic about August
