A number of people have sent me PMs asking how they can get feedback about their applications. No doubt there will be others who would also like to know, so I’ll answer all in one go. Hope that's ok.

Some of you have been interviewed and have asked for feedback from the Admissions Tutor(s), but have either received non-specific feedback or have received feedback that does not match your own experience at interview. Some have received no response whatsoever.

Whatever the reason, anyone applying to Birmingham can request copies of the personal data that the University holds on file.

You can submit a ‘Data Subject Access Request’, requesting copies of documents (both hardcopy and electronic) of which you are the ‘Data Subject’.

In your request, submitted to the University Data Protection Officer, you only need to refer to the provisions of ‘Section 7 of the Data Protection Act 1998’. You can assist the Data Protection Officer by identifying, where possibly, the person(s) who will hold data of which you are the Data Subject.

The University Data Protection Officer is obliged by law (Data Protection Act 1998) to comply with ‘Data Subject Access Request’, and has a statutory period of up to 40 days in which to fulfil your request (i.e. they may fulfil your request faster).

There is a discretionary fee of £10 (maximum), payable to the University, which in the case of Birmingham they will request – so you might as well include a cheque for £10 with your Data Subject Access Request.
