Admissions 2012 GEP/5yr
Hi, im looking for advice on admissions to several unis so I will be posting a similar message in different sections. I am a graduate (2010) in a life science degree with a 2.1 with Honours, considering either the 4 or 5 year course. I have checked the admissions home page and so far I satisfy the criteria to apply.
I will sit my UKCAT test on the 17th and as I understand candidates are ranked in order of their UKCAT score before PS/ref is reviewed- with a minimum average of 630 for 2011 and 690 for 2010.
In regards to work experience, the prospectus says "work experience is crucial." Could someone studying or offered a place help me out here and help me determine how much is considered enough? For example, the GEP at Leicester requires at least 1 year of employment in a healthcare related role. Is Barts this specific, or is it more general, such as placements etc.
Thanks in advance for any responses.

I think the more you've done and the more varied it is, the better. But it's more important that you can reflect on your experiences both for the personal statement and interview.
I am not 100% sure for the grad programme but I doubt that they would insist on a year's full time work in the health sector, as Leicester do. I would have thought they would state that on their website. For the 5-year I think Barts rely heavily on the UKCAT and UCAS points, I am not sure how much they consider your PS/ work exp when selecting for interview.
Sorry couldn't be of more help.

Thanks for your reply, I think it answered my question and ive realized since that my statement doesnt need to be a list of all the things ive done but the key points that show understanding of the career.
In terms of the UKCAT i scored 662.5. Now this is lower than last years average yet higher than 2010. Do you think it is worth an application, or is that score too risky? Thanks mate.
