That's the bit I'm worrying about the most: telling my boss. I mean, how do u explain that u enjoy your job, love the people and company you work for, but have decided to do something really different?! It's going to be one of those tricky break-up speeches: 'sorry, it's not you, it's me'!

Well you can say all that you've said here and then say something like 'I just feel that I'm ready for a new challenge - a second career, if you like.'

Then high-five him. Everyone loves a good high-five, and they'd have to be pretty furious at you to leave you hanging, and so if they join in, it's a sign of acceptance and closure. Everyone will leave happier. That's the mysterious power of a good high-five...
Now go out, and spread the love...
... of high-fives.

Told my boss's boss today. He was very gracious and his first words were congratulations even though I'd phrased it that I was leaving rather than I was going to do medicine. (He'd been told by my boss yesterday apparently.)
I do feel it's a shame that I can't muster up the same passion for my current job and industry as I feel for medicine. Many of the people I work with are lovely. I'm determined to repay their flexibility and kindness by giving all I can in these last few months. Go out on a high, as they say.
Cheers
