Will GEPs get a list of topics for background preparation?

Will GEPs get a list of topics for background preparation before the course starts at Bart's? I got sent one from Warwick (before I had firmed Bart's) listing topics to 'ensure that students have the opportunity to cover or revisit fundamental topics in Biomedical Sciences. It would be beneficial for all students to have a sufficient level of assumed knowledge'. Seemed really helpful, do Bart's do the same?

Last year they told us they were going to send out a comprehensive reading list, and then never bothered. But to be fair, they told us not to worry too much about pre-reading stuff. If you can be arsed, flicking through a simple book like marieb may help you with your physiology, depending on your first degree. The teaching is generally pretty good here and the course really isn't that hard as long as you keep up with the work. Enjoy your summer!

Thanks! Which Marieb book did you mean?

Marieb - Anatomy and Physiology! Or get some of Netter's Flashcards if you want to look at some Anatomy- they are a bit more fun :-)

Most of the lecturers knock it but its still on the reading list and sometimes it can make a lot more sense than the lecture notes ;-)

If you are going to buy a physiology book I have heard about 7000 people say Tortora is better than marieb this week. Thinking about it though, I agree with *Kate* on the anatomy learning. That is one thing that is taught riiiiiidiculously poorly here. If you can learn some basic anatomy before you get there that will definitely help.

Yep- Tortora is pretty good. To be honest, you are better off waiting to get physiology books until you have had a root through the library when you start. Some books are better than others and different people get along better with different books. I bought most of the books on the reading list (which I think you get around August time) and most of them I haven't really used!

Which Tortara book (+ edition) are you referring to? I really want to do some reading up on it before hand if possible. Also do you know a good book for basic fundamental topics in biomedical science? Perhaps 'Biochemistry with Clinical Correlations' by Devlin maybe?
