Err.. not sure- Tortora Principles of Anatomy and Physiology? Latest Ed. Off the top of my head I can't think which one exactly- it comes in three parts- two big books and a smaller red book.
For biomed stuff it depends what kind of thing you want! It's hard to suggest just one as I tend to use a few for different topics. If you want something to read on the subject look at the books in the CASE FILES range by Lange- they use clinical scenarios to go through the basic science and are a good read! I think they are about £16 on amazon. The biochemistry one is good and also the anatomy and pathology ones are too! They have a book to cover most subjects.
To be honest I wouldn't get bogged down teaching yourself stuff before you start- you will wish you had enjoyed your time off once you get here! If you want to do something useful learn the coagulation cascade lol

Don't buy Marieb - it is useless, and there are lots in the library. There is nothing to be lost by waiting until you arrive and seeing what books suit you best.
Enjoy your time off.

Marieb is useful though as it seems that a lot of lecture material comes from there- its a good start! I wouldn't say it was useless...

Well, I'm glad you found it useful. Different books suit different people. Just goes to show, hold off buying lots of books until you start your course.
