Textbooks
In case you're wondering what books you will need, at least in the first year, I just made a Listmania!, er, list, on Amazon.co.uk of the books I've used regularly whilst being here.
Amazon.co.uk: "Barts and The London 1st year MBBS book list"
Might be a nice thread for people to recommend books they use?

hmm
I personally bought nothing at the start of term. However, I would recommend that, if nothing else, you buy your own copy of Kumar and Clarke before you start.
Then grab a copy of Moore and Dalley, followed by a copy of Marieb. The OHCM is a great book for all the Funmed PBLs, too.

Moore's is recommended by the demonstrators in the learning landscapes (dissection room), and the lecturers will reference it extensively.
Gray's barely gets a look in, but several of my classmates use it and the library has many copies.

Hey kotoreru, liking the idea of a listmania, heres my personal opinion on barts preclinical books.
I personally dont think that K&C is a particularly good book for use in the first two years, definitely a luxury rather than a necessity.
Marieb is a definite, and if you are going to get a book before september get this one, but make sure you get the copy with the atlas and getting ready for A&P (the A&P bit isnt so useful, but the anatomy atlas is very very useful for learning anatomy).
I think gray's is the best anatomy book, but that does depend on personal preference, I just think its a bit clearer, with decent diagrams and well layed out, although its sometimes difficult to find specific diagrams as it can be in a funny order. The online reference is useful for searching the book and stealing diagrams for PBL write-ups. The anatomy lecturers do seem to have a preference for moore's though.
I have Rang and Dales, but find it pretty useless and a library copy would suffice.
Nervous system is actually written by 3 barts lecturers, and is good, but one to get when you're here rather than before.
Totally agree about the medical dictionarry, but its free so definitely dont buy it before!
I quite like the oxford handbook of examination and practical skills as it gives quite a lot of clinical information on what your looking for and what that is (a lot of books will say your looking for something like spider naevi, and what it looks like, but this book explains what it is and why it would be there).BL Second Year Medic

Great stuff kiki_12. I agree with you about getting Marieb rather than K&C. As a science grad I just prefer the bigger book, but yeh; Marieb has almost everything you need.
