Question regarding GEP and 5 year course

I'm applying for Barts as a graduate but I'm unsure as to whether I should apply for the GEP or the 5 year. If I apply for the GEP and they dont think I'm right, can they offer me a place on the 5 year if they think that I'm better suited to it?

    Thanks!

A common question, and the general consensus is no, not at Barts at least.

I just got in pretty pissed, but from what I grasp you're treated as a stranger to both courses. Apply for both if you're dead keen on Barts and both application is treated differently.

I think it depends on your background and personal situation. I honestly think you stand a better chance of getting into the 5 year course as the GEP course is very popular, you wont be alone - nearly half of my year are graduates (I'm also a graduate on the 5 year). Plus the GEP course is a lot more intense, although the financial support is better. 5 years is not a whole lot more than 4!

As ryangeleit says, really. Quite a few of the GEP people are complaining about the workload, if that's of interest to you, AndrewD.

Also, I think it's more like a 1/3 of our year are graduates, ryangeleit.

GEP workload is tough. First exam is 2 and a half weeks after induction (next Wednesday). However, the group fits very well together, and is mostly very sociable and helpful if you're struggling. Have a think about your interview technique. I got rejected from all schools that interviewed me for 20-30 minutes - including Bart's 5-year, but got offers for warwick and bart's GEP with the selection centre.

Also, some GEP applicants did get 5-year offers but i think only for waiting list purposes, not because applicants were better suited to it.

If your UKCAT and PS are decent, i say give the GEP a go. The workload is tedious, but i'd rather have it out the way in a year so i can start the fun stuff sooner! Oh, and from the end of October we do spend 1 day a week doing clinical stuff.

Oh you would so love to know Timmy.... ;-)

I'll give you a clue. My name isn't Rose. Lol.

Selection centre is about 5 hours - group session, 1-1 interview and written exercise. Theres quite a bit about them on Barts and Warwick sections if you look.
