Hmm, there is the first event at 7pm in Griffin bar on the 12th and I suggest you come to that (not least cos its the best way of meetng your mum or dad! But also cos its something people always seem to refer to ("I remember you at mummies and daddies you were so funny". *Ahem* ok , maybe not such a good reason to go :P
Here is the lineup:
""FRESHER PRINCE OF BL AIR" :-)
FRESHERS FORTNIGHT: 13th SEPTEMBER - 26th SEPTEMBER 2008
(JOIN THE OFFICIAL FACEBOOK GROUP BARTS & THE LONDON/BARTS/BLSA BL FRESHERS 2008-2009)
Saturday 13th September - Mummies and Daddies
Here at BL, we welcome you to the close knit, friendly community that is London's
finest Student's Association with the first event of the fortnight, Mummies and
Daddies. We are, as you will find, a sensitive bunch who understands the pain/joy of
flying the nest and we hope you ease the transition by providing you with two
alternative/replacement parents. They will take care of you, buy you drinks and may
even one day lend you a textbook.
Sunday 14th September - "Dirty Doctors and Naughty Nurses"
"YOUR FIRST ONCALL" - Be prepared to whip out your scrubs and dress to impress. At
Barts and the London we love a bit of cross dressing so please, don't be scared,
show off your inner wo/man and make a bit of an arse of yourself!
Monday 15th September - "Pounded" - THE LAUNCH PARTY
Hate Mondays? Not anymore, drinks are as the name suggests....one pound. This is not
a joke far from it, every Monday the finest watering hole in the east end supplies
you with a wide array of drinks at dirt cheap prices. The best way to start the
week! THIS IS A NEW NIGHT WE'RE LAUNCHING - SO COME ON DOWN!
Tuesday 16th September - "A Night with the Hypnotist"
Look into my eyes, look into my eyes, not around the eyes, into my eyes... are you
feeling sleepy yet? We hope you´re not, as this only happens ONCE EVERY TWO YEARS so
the whole medical school will be out in force. A great night and time to recover
from your Monday Madness. Get there early to avoid disappointment.
Wednesday 17th September - "Freshers Fair" followed by BLu Cheese
Spend the afternoon joining as many clubs and societies that you can manage, meet
other years from the school, and experience the madness that is Fresher´s Fair! Get
as many freebies as possible (the medical dictionary is always a favourite!) Later
that evening, get ready for a night of cheesy classics. Chesney Hawkes eat your
heart out, this night is a favourite with all years so again, get there early!
Thursday 18th September - "PLUSH" - THE LAUNCH OF OUR BRAND NEW HIP HOP, RnB NIGHT!"
If your don´t like Wednesday´s cheese fest, then dress Smart & Sexy for a night of
Hip Hop, RnB Funky House and Club Classics. With the best drink promotions in town,
this night is going to be HOT! This night is always extremely busy, all the latest
tunes and your flatmates suddenly looking rather more attractive that you
remembered. What could be better? This night is co-hosted with BLAS so make sure you
arrive early to avoid any disappointment.
Friday 19th September - BUBBLE GUM Fridays Proudly Presents The One You've Been
Waiting For...
"TOGA & TEQUILLA!!!"
If Carlsberg made nights in Freshers then...Seriously though, get practising at your
toga draping and get ready for a night of complete
Madness/Mayhem/Craziness/Debauchery. Not much more to say about this night apart
from... DON'T MISS THIS AMAZING NIGHT!!! Finish the first week of Freshers off in
style wearing a TOGA!!!
Saturday 20th September "Mummies and Daddies REVISITED..."
So you've already met your mum and dad, now you can get to know them better. Spend
some quality time with the family and then come to the union for a family quiz...
PRIZES GALORE. Mums and Dads are very useful people so make sure that you go to
this, it's very relaxed and your will make some good friends! The older years are
here to help so DON'T BY SHY!!!
Sunday 21st September - "BBQ Hosted by Lacrosse & Water Polo"
Ever been to Charterhouse lawn? Well here's your first chance. Nestled in the
Barbican, this tranquil bit of grass will play host to many memories (including the
Summer Ball) for the coming years... Two of the greatest clubs at the union,
Lacrosse and Water Polo, will host this BBQ which means than inevitably it will lead
to some sort of nakedness (this is not a joke). Free food, possibly salmonella
ridden, but give it a go anyway.
MONDAY 22nd SEPTEMEBR - "POUNDED - BIG WILLIE STYLE!!!" - (FRESHER PRINCE OF BL AIR!)
"So this is a story, all about how, my life got flipped turned upside down, and I
liked to take a minute, just sit right there and I'll tell you how I became the
Fresher Prince of a town called BL Air."
Possibly the greatest combination of nights ever created... cheap drinks all night
with 80´s Hip-hop to dance to with plenty of old skool classics. Personally I think
that this was created by a genius sent from heaven. Dress like run DMC or MC Hammer
or even Will Smith and Carlton Banks and you'll be along the right lines, and make
sure you know the words to the Fresh Prince of Bell Air theme tune! I cannot stress
how good this night will be!
Tuesday 23rd September - "BAND NIGHT"
This night is really starting to take off at our union, and we are getting some
pretty amazing acts. One of our lovely committee members seems to have his fingers
in all the right pies so be prepared to see some amazing bands that your would have
to pay a lot more to see usually. This night is going to be crazy, so come on
down!!!
Wednesday 24th September - "Fresher Trials Followed by FINAL WHISTLE - BLu Cheese. "
Go and play your selected sport/s during the day and end up with your team at the
union for your first night of tables. But what are tables I hear you ask? This
happens every Wednesday after sports matches. The teams decamp to the union for a
chillax and unwind... maybe some light banter included! Final whistle happens once a
month and involves inter-team games get very competetive and general carnage ensues.
Tables pack-up by 9:30pm and BLu Cheese commences. Don't fancy tables? Come down for
10:00pm and dance the night away with the best DJ's in town- TOTAL REQUEST LIVE - WE
PLAY WHAT YOU WANT! This is big night for all BL Clubs and Societies.
Thursday 25th September - "Comedy Night"
Another relaxed night (you need it before the boat ball!), but again, it's a very
popular one. All years turn out for this one. It's another opportunity to chat with
mum and dad and meet other people as music won't be blasting. This night is a night
to remember! So come down and laugh your hearts out!!!
Friday 26th September - "The FRESHERS Masquerade Boat Ball ..."
(*Any tickets remaining will be opened to everyone to purchase.)
The end of Fresher´s Fortnight, this is the big one! Spend the day with your mates
shopping around London for a mask (prize for the most original mask) then get your
glad rags on for a night that you'll remember for the rest of your days at this
fabulous institution! Champagne (Dom Perignon) reception, boat on the Thames,
reminisce about the last two weeks and look forward to some of the best years of
your life. Fact!
If you thought that this was good, here's the best bit. You can buy a pass to all
the events (not including the Boat Ball) for a mere £20! I would highly recommend
getting one! Fresher Passes is open to everyone, we will be letting everyone know
where and how you can purchase these passes soon!
And dont forget your costume purple_monkey.

Holy crap, that sounds hardcore... 2 weeks... guess I'll have to pace myself! My first (and obviously most important) question -- how much are Jagerbombs at the union? Also, approximately how much are tickets for the Boat Ball?

One of the best things about medicine, 2 full weeks of freshers!
Boat ball is usually a little bit pricey, maybe about £30 but definitely a good way to finish off freshers.
A jagerbomb? just had to look that up on wiki, id imagine since its got red bull in it it will probably be around £2.50, not sure though, sounds like a very specialist drink! I may have to try one.BL Second Year Medic

Wow, that sounds immense!
I need to book a bed in the ICU and get on the liver transplant list by the 27th then =P.
But apart from that sounds like an awesome fortnight, I might video record the first lecture on the 27th. It should be a laugh.Last edited by purple_monkey; 16-08-2008 at 04:59 PM.
