Formal Events at Barts
Hi everyone!
Can any current students please give abit of information on formal events at Barts. i.e.
- Are there any events held by school itself or are formal events just held by some clubs/societies you may be a member of.
- Can you name any events in prticular (i can think of the freshers ball and rag dinner).
- Does everybody have to go? If not then how popular are the formal events?
- Is it worth investing in a dinner suit for the year (or 5)? How often would you wear one?
I just got wondering this as my friends on other courses (i.e. business at wolverhampton) at claim to have had NO formal outings whatsoever but it seems that life at Barts may involve several!

Formal events are run by the students association (i.e. the union), queen mary students union (if you want) and some societies within it.
Freshers Boat Ball (BLSA ENTS), Summer Ball (BLSA), Association Dinner (BLSA), RAG Ball (RAG Committee), Burns Night Supper (HINA), about half of the clubs & socs AGMs, various hospital balls.
No, it's not compulsary (there are a lot of ****s who have nothing to do with the medical school social life). Attendance varies but the big events are usually popular (Summer Ball attracts upward of 400 people).
It is if you plan to be sociable, it certainly saves you money.
It's a medical school with lots of history and tradition and an active social impulse.

Nope, you can pay on the door for events during freshers and boat ball tickets will probably still be available during the first week or so.

You can.
But to be honest, I can't see any real reason to. They don't even have a union.
