Transferring to Queen Maryss - advice needed!!
Heyy peeps this is like ma last option to get advice so im going for it!! lol!! ryt heres the situation - i have been offered a conditional offer to study medicine at manchester ths year!!! Wen i got the offer i was dead chuffed cos apparently this year they dealt out a lot of rejections - anyways ma place was confirmed this thursday after getting 4 A's. I have sorted out accomodation and stuff and was looking forward to going as it was my first option - Problem: My family are moving down to london where I come from - now this wouldnt be a problem for me except my younger sister who is 10 is going with them. Unfortunately, my parents hav been offered contracts whih requires them to work abroad for months at a time. This leaves my little sister alone down in london where we hav no family or ne friends to leave her with. I hav tried to find accomodation in manchester where we can both live I cant find nething within my budget. So a course transfer to london seemed the only choice I had, as we have already sold this house here in manchester. I am soooo confused about what 2 do - i start uni in septmeber and although i wanna study at manchester i think course transfers the best thing - my parents dont go abroad for a couple of months yet but what dya think i shud do??????????? they dont have ne money to finance accmodation for us both in manchester n our london house is the only house we have left. also they wouldnt b taking this job if they werent in serious financial problesm cos they got scammed 200.000 pounds by a fake company in dubai - eeeeek!!!!! wt shud i do??? an suggestions would be soooo much appreciated thnk you! i mean whats the situation for transfers??? anyone actually done it?? n if not what about electives?? i mean if i do ma degree in mani wud i b able2do ma electives in london???? and shud i start ma course in mani and apply fpr transfer after first year??? any suggestions would be soo helpful thnk u!!

Try discussing it with advisors in Manchester?

You see my posts? You see them? This is what happens when you spend four years or so not saying what you're thinking. Especially when you like to. What happens is that everything explodes out of you in a propogating verbose horror that you cannot make yourself control. Don't let this happen to you, kids.

Argh, PLEASE don't type in txt speak, mission to read that! Punctuation! Paragraphs!
Can't your parents take your sister along with them abroad? :S Seems like they are putting you in a pretty unreasonable situation. Course transfers are extremely rare according to the BL prospectus only with serious personal extenuating circumstances (may qualify here) and are taken on an individual basis, you must contact the admissions office directly for advice on transfers.
Also, what do you mean about doing your electives in London? Electives don't start until well into your clinical years?

I would ask them as soon as possible...I don't think relying on electives 5 years down the line is such a good idea in this situation, remember you will be working almost full time by that stage, even in your elective you won't have time to care for your sister really.

How about boarding school for your sister? It's a long shot and I'm sure it's something you've already considered but if your transfer fails then that is something your family could try.

How exactly would you look after and provide for a 10 year-old when you're 18 (I guess?) school leaver?
And what would you study at QM?

Surely they could get better arrangements such as -- you know -- taking her with them. She needs her parents, not her sibling (I have personal experience with this: my sister's been seperated from her dad and our mum works a lot; she needs more parental contact. My brother and I are not enough for her, and I don't think you will be either. We try our best.). Which countries are they going to? I know good schools in the Emirates.
They can try and also rent the house short term as well.
Reckon boarding schools are too expensive...
This is definitely a problem for the 'rents to sort out. Surely they didn't expect to fob her off on you like so much baggagge.Medicine Application, 2007:

I think the problem is that OP's parents only occassionally go abroad, so getting a school abroad is not a solution because they are not permanently there, only for months at a time.
Other options are: do you have grandparents/unclesor aunts anywhere in the country that could take her in?FY2

Maybe they can attempt "parenting by proxy" by sending her to a long-term homestay...
