Hep B Vaccine
hey!
I still havent had my vaccinations yet....(I know its like really late!)
but yea...basically my GP said they wouldnt do it...& then I've tried registering somewhere else...but I something happened along the way...so it didnt quite work out.
Its ok still...my letter from QM (which i received yesterday) said to start having them soon.
My GP said go to a travel clinic...n they charge £35 per injection...like how ridiculous...
what did you guys do? All of my mates got them done for free/cheaply by their GP...My GP just said to ask the uni if they have some sort of service.
Does anyone know if QM do Hep B vaccinations? Iv tried calling but they dont pick up...
Id better hurry up...

the Uni itself wont do it. the GPs should do it free of charge cos it aint for fun, its for medicine.
keep pushing.

I think some GPs have become a little greedy.

According to my GP, the Local Medical Committee has a policy whereby GP's shouldnt be giving vaccinations for educational/employment purposes and that occupational health have to sort it out. I think it might be true & occupational health at QM said they would get back to me so i reckon QM will do it.

email from QM:
"It is not mandatory for incoming medical students to commence Hepatitis
B vaccinations prior to starting the MBBS [A100] course, however it is
highly recommended.
We [Occupational Health Service] can commence your Hepatitis B
vaccinations but as you are not yet a Queen Mary students there is a £20
charge. Or you can wait until the course starts in September when we
will be able to vaccinate you free of charge."

It's actually not in their contract to do occupational health checks (including vaccinations). If they provide Hep B vaccs they are well within their rights to charge patients for them. It is a private service after all.
It is the university's responsibility, not your GP's.South Bank University, PgDip Therapeutic Radiography 2007 - almost finished and have just been offered a job!!!

as far as I know it is dependant on the local Trust's policy, and many Occy Health depts will do it for free-as xDx has said, qm/bl will do it....
