Any other matures starting in September??
Hello people! Got my offer from Barts and only have 3 modules left to do with my A levels so it's looking increasingly likely I'll be starting in September (fingers crossed!)
Are there any other matures starting too?
I suspect I may be breaking this years record for being the most mature mature!! ;-) Yay!
Anyone else over 30 going to be coming along?Barts and the London - 3rd Year Medic

Ill be 22, not a v mature mature, but still mature enough to be mature even though its not as mature as your maturity suggests how mature your maturity is.
(as you can see im not very mature)

Never ask a lady her age!! Oh go on then..it's 39 +1...I'm ignoring the one as it's too depressing! Don't act it though so I'll have no trouble getting into the spirit of freshers week!

Everhopeful - what made you decide to do med now? I've been trying for years but I didn't make the grade or the interview.

I've worked in health insurance for years, working with doctors and nurses. I sit on my bum all day doing a sedentary office job. I'd rather be rushing about, dealing with people and hopefully doing something a little more socially useful. I never went to Uni from college so I'm really looking forward to the luxury of being a poor stude, with no works politics to suffer with..can't wait. I've been turned down out of hand by some Uni's but Barts have never been anything but brilliant.. getting really excited about it all now. Only need 3 Bs at my A2 Env Science in June and that's me in, as I'm already Hep B jabbed and CRB cleared..yay!
Dont let age stop you..it's only a mental barrier..just find out where is more mature friendly and don't waste applications on those who openly discourage older applicants..best of luckBarts and the London - 3rd Year Medic

Does it concern you that you may be well into your 50s before you ever reach consultant grade? Do you have any social responsibilities that might interfere with your studies and work life? If you do, how have you justified the decision to go ahead knowing that it'll be a disruption to those close to you?
I for one applaud you. I know a lot of people your age wouldn't have even tried and its nice to see someone brave enough to make this leap.
At least there'll be one student who knows how to do laundry

To the first point..nope not really. I plan to enjoy each day as it comes and not hanker after the promotions to the detriment of enjoying life! I've got to the top of my career already, had a 6 figure salary and frankly it doesn't necessarily make you happy. No social responsibilities other than spouse and parents..oh and cats.. so easy enough to balance those. Not having anklebiters helps this plan work..
Wouldn't assume 40 yr olds don't still have laundry disasters..particularly after a big night out!! ;-)
I personally think life is for living..I plan to enjoy every second of being a student..and age is immaterial really..all I know is that if I don't do this I'll spend the rest of my years regretting it..so there you go...Barts and the London - 3rd Year Medic

I'm impressed. As well I should be by someone so much more experienced in life than I.

I can tell you clearly want this a lot and you really stand out in contrast to many 17 year olds who are in it for the reputation, the money, the glory etc. (not that they're all like that of course). I am not in the least surprised you managed to win a place.
You won't be able to get through a day where someone doesn't make a "she's old enough to be my mum!" joke though.
