    Paying fees by BACS

I've now got an invoice for my fees (3k! ouch!), does anyone know if it's possible to pay by BACS to the account on the Giro slip? I've emailed to ask but no reply yet. It would be much much handier...

Sorry to invade your thread but I figured you might be able to answer my question... If you're paying by student loan, you don't need to fill the form in right?

Not sure what form you're referring to FTW, but it's always better to give the QMUL ****s what they want.

Rachel, AIUI, there's two options - cash/cheque/credit/debit card upfront or direct debit, my guess is that if you want to do anything different they'll **** you off.

(I thought BACS was a way to pay employees not a way to pay for something? Does it mean a direct bank transfer?)

BACS is just a bank transfer (Bankers' Automated Clearing Service or something). I use it quite a bit to pay bills, money to people etc. Ta for info Renal, I guess if you can direct debit you can BACS, just need to know what reference number I should use I spose. I'd rather do this than have to take a cheque to mile end or whatever. I shall give the finance bods a ring later today I think...

If you use a credit card they take 3% extra, so it works out to an extra 90 pounds, so youre best bet is direct debit.

Oh Renal I was talking about a letter requesting the Giro slip be filled in but it hardly seems applicable to me since my fees are being paid by my student loan. Isn't it only for people paying themselves by Direct Debit or whatever.

I didn't get a direct debit mandate, I have their account details though (from the Giro slip) so I'll transfer the money myself. I don't fancy setting up a direct debit for 3k a year anyway, could come as a nasty shock

AIUI, and I'm not an expert at finances, your loan goes directly into your bank account, it goes nowhere near the college. Your grant, however, does cover some or all of your fees and is paid directly to the finance department at QMUL, if there's a delay on that you may need to pay the fees upfront and recieve a refund later.
