    'hands in pockets' anatomical help

    Hello,
probably a very easy question for most of you.

How would you anatomically describe the direction that the muscle fibres of the external intercostal muscles run? My textbook says obliquely anteroinferiorly, but I remember in the dissection room being told it another way.

What's a sound way to describe the 'hands in pocket' direction?

    Thanks.
