Question Can personal study get me into an MA physio program?

    Hi guys,

I'm new here. I'm posting because I have been looking for conversion courses in London so I can get into an MA exercise science or physiotherapy program.

My BA is in Communications and my MA is in writing - in other words, two fields that are in no way related to anatomy or biology.

Over the last five years my passion has been studying anatomy and kinesiology. I didn't do this through classes, however. I've learned everything I know through reading books on my own and viewing DVDs on anatomy and exercise science. I've learned so much about anatomy and physiology that I can usually stump my doctor friends when it comes to those subjects.

Still, I really don't think personal learning is going to help me get into an MA program. So, does anyone know of any anatomy/physiology/exercise science conversion courses at Universities in London (that's where I live)?

Many other careers have conversion courses (a conversion course is usually a 1 year program where you take all the core requirements that you would have in a BA program; it's point is to give you the education credentials to get into an MA), but I can't find any in the sciences. Does anyone know of any?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Probably you're not going to find them. MSc's are different to MA conversion programmes. However, in the interest of being constructive, take a look at Prospects.ac.uk and see if you can find something. Best bet would be to approach the universities directly. Also, take a look at the OU and see if there are any courses you could take which would be useful to your application.

    Thanks giella,

I'll look into Open University to get some cores classes done. I'm never considered that, I was under the impression that OU was just kind of a joke, but it's worth looking into.

How did you get on ?

    Hi,

I am starting to learn and also my background is not medical - I am doing a self study anatomy and physiology course via distance learning but then I would be interested in exploring different options for learning after that ?

I did an enquiry at University of East London and they offer various different options for physiotherapy.

I wondered how you got on with it all ? I really like your approach it sounds very interesting too,

    Nicola
