Hi there guys!!!I found this site really useful and i have been reading of the difficulties we go through to get on a bloody access course to medicine. I'm a registered nurse, i've done a 3years course in nursing and i have contacted many universities regarding entry qualifications and all of them said my qualifications are not enough for the course (although it is a health related diploma!!), I've been working as a renal nurse (on a medical ward) for over one and half years now. Anyway i have applied for Lambeth College recently as admission office says there's still vaccancies for the course. So one of you have been asked to take a communication and math test,, what does it involve?? Is it a difficult maths test?? What sort of questions they ask you in the interview. I doubt they will take me on the course cos i have applied way too late for a course which is in demand but just in case they do ask me for an interview so i would like to know what sort of questions they will ask me and what the test involve. Thanks
Ive just finished my 1st year of nursing and applied to Lambeth a while back. I recieved 2 replies from them; 1 saying their considering my application and 2 inviting me to enrol on 31st August.
As the course is for mature applicants with no qualifications, i figured that as i already have math and english..etc qualifications i did not need to take the assessment, so maybe you dont either if you have qualifications.
Maybe im wrong?? There will probably be someone replying to this statement with new facts but im just writing what i gathered from what i recieved from them. I mean you wouldnt enrol unless you had passed test+interview??
But, if you do have to take the test+interview dont stress, if you stress about these small engagements, what will you be like when you come face to face with bigger engagements, meaning Medical School Interview.
Anyways, I dont think i helped much.
think positively.

Hi there Marie!! Are you doing nursing? what a brave person!!Lol I did nursing at buckinghamshire chilterns university college. I like doing nursing, very rewarding and all of that, but when it comes to money you'll see that the gap is enormous. A doctor (GP) is earning at least 75/hour over the weekend whereas a nurse is barely doing a 100/day (weekend), so it's not fair we do loads of work and the salary is so miserable. Anyway I saw your other post regarding dropping out from nursing to do the access course to medicine, well if you are concerned about money as much as i am I would advise you to go on the access course but if you like nursing just stay where you are.Other thing is, if you are still young go for it (do the access course), if you regret you can always go back to nursing, i'm 28 now. I found nursing easy but to study to be a doctor will take much more effort for sure and I surely don't know if I would make it to the end, I am very persistant and I am hopping to get on a medical course and finish it, but it wil be really difficult for sure. Doctors work night shifts as well as nurses and it is not easy job to be a doctor too but the salary i bet is worth it!!!LOL
Take care, LUkas
Hey Lucas, Thanks for replying!!!
Im at Bucks studying nursing... its OK, but i would prefer to do something else that challenges me intellectually as well as emotionally and physically. Nursing is extremely rewarding and i love the hands on care element but i feel as though i'm losing my brain cells, i need to be stimulated. So yes i will go for the Access course at Lambeth and apply to med after because it is my dream to become a doctor, minus the pay. Ill also apply for the biomedical degree if my desired route to med fails!! You always need a back up plan!! plus im only 19.
Thanks for the encouragement Lucas
If your going to lambeth ill see you there.
Hopefully there will be places there on enrolment day!!
I did my application to the course access to medicine online,, did you do the same??I'm a bit worried, i phoned admissions and they told me to fill out the forms online and sent it to them online, did you get the forms in person and posted them to admissions or did you fill out the forms online?? I dont really know if they even received them cos i did it online.
By the way nice Manga showing the scarred girl picture!!!I love manga drawings!!!
Thanks again. Lukas
Yes I did apply online and recieved a reply within 2/3 weeks, it did take quite long!! But dont worry i think most people apply online. When i phoned up admissions she said that there are still places and to make sure you get there on time on enrolment day!!
Youll be alright, It will all work out in the end!! Trust me>>>>
Marie xx
ps yes i like the manga pic too i thought it reminded me of me when i get a little bit stressed!!! lol
Thanks so much, ceih and Dan27 :)
I'm more thinking of the 64 in case SGUL decide to use just that method to get their interview metric instead of both methods, but hopefully not and I've emailed...
I know I shouldn't be this excited but I got offered an interview and I'm buzzin!! Mirror mirror on the wall, please don't respond if I'm asking you questions! haha
I think I've got a firm idea of...
