Lambeth College Access to Medicine Interview
Hi, I have an interview tomorrow for Lambeth College Access to Medicine. Is there anybody out there who has attened this interview recently? I would appreciate if anyone can give me clues of what it is like, what kind of questions were asked and what to expect generally.
Any information will be appreciated.
Regards.

Hi,
The interview is nothing really to worry about. It's just a chat to find out whether you are suitable for this course and if you are committed to applying for medicine. So the questions are geared towards that. It's quite relaxed (it's a group interview so you'll be in a room with other candidates). I thought the interview was going to be much harder, and I was pleasantly surprised. I now have a place for September!
All the best and let me know how it goes.

Nua, did you receive this mail from Lambeth. they sent to me this morning
Welcome to the Lambeth College Access course for Medicine and Medical Biosciences – please ensure that you enrol as soon as possible to secure your place on the course.
This is an established course with a very good record of success in enabling students to get into University.
If you maintain a good record of attendance and punctuality, and are prepared to work, you can be sure that you will be starting a University degree in October next year.
My name is Michael Busfield - I am your Course Tutor (Group A) and I will be teaching you Chemistry.
Before the course starts:-
# 1 – You should be revising Biology and Chemistry - Get hold of GCSE Revision Guides and Workbooks for Biology and Chemistry - read the revision guides and answer as many questions in the workbooks as possible..
You could also look at BBC Bitsize GCSE and complete the past papers in Biology and Chemistry included with this email.
# 2 - Get essential student equipment i.e. USB memory stick at least 4G, pens, pencils, lined paper pads, graph paper, loose leaf folders, bag etc. - get a scientific calculator and learn how to use it - CASIO fx-85GT PLUS recommended.
# 3 - You should be looking at University websites and arranging visits, open days etc. you will need to check if your University choices will accept the Access Course at Lambeth College and if they require GCSE's in English and Mathematics.
Be prepared to consider all Universities – there are alternatives to Kings College – this year of the students in Group A who applied to Kings college – no one was offered a place, last year of the students from Group A who applied to Kings College – no one was offered a place, the year before of the students in Group A who applied to Kings college only one student was offered a place and that student already had a degree. Clearly there is a pattern here. Also St. Georges require GCSE grade B or above in English and Maths – if you apply there and do not have these qualifications your application will be rejected.
# 4 - If you do not have any experience in the topic that you wish study at University try to arrange something ASAP e.g. work shadowing, placements etc.– in particular those of you who would be working with patients after you qualify need some experience of any type of caring work even if its only giving cups of tea or food to sick people.
# 5 - Your University application will be sent to UCAS by the end of October - start working on your personal statement now! - There are plenty of guides on the Internet.
Punctuality and attendance are crucial to your success on this course – be sure to arrange your travel details accordingly.
Unfortunately I am not able to send a timetable at this time, however, I have attached and some background reading and GCSE exam papers for you to complete.
I look forward to seeing you in September.

No, I haven't received this email, maybe it's because I'm in a different group - Group E. It's good that they're giving preparation advice.

How did you find out what group you're in? I've tried phoning but couldn't get through or leave a message, so I emailed and was told I would find out in August.

It was written in the offer letter I received. Then when I enrolled, the lady at the enrolment office noted it down when she was verifying everything. I did wonder how they managed to place me into a group so quickly, as I thought they would do that in September, but I didn't say anything.

Wow you guys are lucky to get so much information before starting the course! I was in group D last year, Michael Busfield was my chemistry practical teacher and I sat in on some of his lectures too.

In the letter they sent you, is the 'Access to Medicine and Dentistry" course explicitly mentioned? If it is, then they're considering you for it. If it isn't then the chances are they are going to offer you an alternative course.
The questions they ask are pretty easy, they just want to make sure you are committed.
