    Sussex Downs 2012 entry

    Hey,

This is just a thread for those applying to Sussex Downs for the Access to Medicine course, commencing this September. I tried to find a thread but couldn't so I thought I might as well make one :-)

I'm going to the information session on Weds 8th; is there anyone else going?

Hey thanks! How are you finding the course? Do you have any tips for the application process? It's very competitive to get in, I want to do everything I can as SD is my first choice for Access. Also, did you get a linked place with BSMS?

I'm also applying for this September. I went to the information evening on the 7th Dec, it was really interesting, especially listening to the current students (were you one of the students EternalRose?). I'm also applying to Lambeth, City and Islington and Liverpool Foundation Yr 0.

I haven't been to any other information days but from researching the internet and emailing med school admissions, Sussex seem to be one of the best A2M courses, I guess that's why its so competitive.

    Good luck

    Dawn

Hello, I'll be at the Sussex Downs open day on Wednesday. I really like the look of this course and BSMS is my ideal University, but I suppose I need to hedge my bets by applying to other places as well.

Hi, no I didnt get a chance to have the linked interview as I got my place off the waiting list there was 18 places given out...I was number 19. By the time I came off the waiting list...interviews had been and gone. Although, we are all anxiously awaiting to hear from brighton this week as only 5 out of 18 got linked places. Everyone who didnt get linked places or interviews the first time round has applied again (including me)I wasnt at the open day just gone, I was going to be there but I have been ill this week. If I could give you my biggest tip, get ORGANISED. If you are a procrastinator and leave things till the last minute you will sink on this course fast. I would also start preparing for the UKCAT now. I scored 600 for my UKCAT, and have applied to medical schools very strategically because of it. High UKCAT scores will mean you can apply to better places...make sure you do your research about where you apply too as a lot of unis will have a cut off...im not allowed to say anything about the content of the pre-access days. Although, lets just say I never want to have to repeat that process again! lol Be yourself, dont act up and be confident in your abilities. To make it to the short list, is good going. Over 200 applied in my year...and only 18 made it..2 have dropped out. So 16 are on my course including me. Dont worry if you completely flunk one area as they look at your performance overall and if you do make it in and get a linked interview. Get PREPARED...find out about the structure of the nhs..and buy Introduction to Medical Ethics by Tony Hope and have a read about the different kind of scenarios doctors are presented with and dont sit on the fence if they ask you a question, they want to know who YOU are...if you have any other questions, I will be happy to answer.
