I've not received a letter asking for references or anything, applied at the end of February. Hopefully one should turn up soon. I would expect to at least get an interview, done a chemistry higher at Stows request and got 2 years experience volunteering in a care of the elderly ward.
Not sure who to ask for a reference. Obvious choice would be head of voluntary services, but I think I have spoke to her maybe 5 times in 2 years, and don't fancy asking my current boss for one.

I haven't had reference requests yet either, but I only applied a couple of weeks ago. They confirmed they received my application both by post and via email, and if they are interviewing in batches it might mean those they haven't asked are being considered as a later batch. I know of someone who has applied for the course before and apparently they ask for references from everyone, so I can only assume this is still the case. I hope so anyway!

Calum_c - head of voluntary services would probably be a good option for a reference; even if you don't know her personally she should still be able to comment on your performance/attributes by talking to other members of staff.

Hey guys, I spoke to someone in Learner services yesterday....yes, I actually got to speak to someone!!..anyway, I was asking if they needed a reference from me, they said there was nothing on the system asking for a reference but if I wanted to get one to them it would only strethen my app, the bad news is that they are saying even though the closing date is Friday if you've applied alter than the end of Feb beginning of March, you're chances of interview and a place are virtually none...
...don't know how much truth there is in this but wanted to pass that on.....

Thanks for the update nicolajane. That is ridiculous; why are they allowing people to waste time applying for something that they have no chance of being accepted for, based purely on how quickly you apply? If that is the case they should really have an earlier closing date! I applied at the end of March because I was waiting for confirmation of voluntary work to come through. I'm going to try phoning them this afternoon to see what I can find out.
